In brief
Black nail polish is something Cristiano Ronaldo has been seen sporting in a number of photos.
As evidenced by images from 2016, the football legend has always had nail polish on his toes.
Israel Adesanya and other combat sports athletes apply black nail paint as a protective measure.
Even at 40, Cristiano Ronaldo is still one of the greatest athletes in the world, playing football for both clubs and the national team. The Portuguese player has broken numerous records and extended his playing career thanks in large part to his unwavering professionalism. There are some that might never be broken.
It is not shocking that he would go to such extremes to become one of the greatest of all time. Ronaldo is used to finding the 0.1% difference to make him even better, whether it’s his lavish five sleeps a day or his protein-rich six meals a day diet.
The rationale for all of these incredible lifestyle changes is that they support and preserve the Real Madrid great’s health and fitness, which has enabled him to stay exceptionally fit as his playing days draw to a close. Ronaldo does, however, take one precaution that appears to have gone unnoticed. It also has to do with his feet.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s Painted Toenails
Champions League all-time top scorer wears black nail polish
Ronaldo sharing his amazing body on social media is nothing new to us. He did have an underwear brand named after him, after all. Who could better advertise it? But in some of his posts, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s toes have caught the attention of a lot of his followers. Ronaldo looks to have black nail lacquer on all of his toes in several photos of the 40-year-old relaxing outside sans shoes.
Nor is this an isolated instance. In a photo with former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, the footballing heavyweight also had his toenails painted. Photos from as far back as 2016 also show him wearing black nail polish.
The Reason Ronaldo Paints his Toenails
Nail polish helps prevent fungal infections
Ronaldo’s motivation for wearing the nail polish is actually more scientific than you may think, despite the fact that we could just assume that it’s a daring fashion statement for a man who is known to like making a statement. After hours of wearing sweaty shoes, athletes like CR7 decide to paint their toenails to avoid contracting a fungal infection, according to German publication BILD.
It is thought that the paint creates a barrier that prevents microorganisms from penetrating the skin. Additionally, it has been proposed that the additional coating prevents the nails from breaking or splitting when exercising, something Ronaldo is unlikely to be aware of because he wears football boots during his most strenuous activities.
Ronaldo One of Many Athletes to Paint Toenails
Israel Adesanya one of many MMA stars who do the same
The man who Jose Mourinho praised as “the best” is not the first elite athlete to do this, despite how odd it may appear at first. More people in MMA than in football paint their toenails black. Or at least it appears that way given how frequently we witness combatants without shoes. It is something that UFC fans have already noticed and discussed on social media.
In the lead-up to battles, fighters like Andrei Arlovski have been known to take the same precaution. ‘The Last Stylebender’, Israel Adesanya, is likewise in this category. The middleweight fighter, who was born in Nigeria, has asserted that he painted his nails to make them appear even more attractive when he knocks out opponents. Sean Strickland specifically targeted this in the run-up to their 2023 world title match.
Mike Tyson, the most evil man in the planet, was known to do the same thing. More significantly, this minor detail demonstrates Cristiano Ronaldo’s continued pursuit of excellence. His unrelenting pursuit of dominance never stops.
