Even though he and his assistant were sent out after Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Everton in the middle of the week, Arne Slot will be on the touchline for the team’s match against Wolves on Sunday. When Michael Oliver halted the final Merseyside derby at Goodison, James Tarkowski’s stoppage-time triumph precipitated tearful scenes that spilled over.
After a furious altercation, Curtis Jones and Abdoulaye Doucoure were both sent off, and Slot and his assistant were also sent off for confronting the referee following the match. Even if the FA has reprimanded Slot and Sipke Hulshoff, they will still be in the dugout on Sunday at 2:00 PM.
Slot Given Until Wednesday to Appeal Charge
A punishment can be handed out after this deadline
The FA announced in a statement on Friday that Slot and Hulshoff had been disciplined for their treatment of Oliver, and they were given a deadline to contest the case.
“After the clubs’ Premier League match on Wednesday, February 12, Everton, Liverpool, Arne Slot, and Sipke Hulshoff were charged. Following the conclusion of the game, the Liverpool manager is accused of acting inappropriately and/or using derogatory and/or abusive language and/or behavior toward the match referee and an assistance referee.
“A match official was fired when Liverpool’s assistant manager allegedly behaved inappropriately, used derogatory and/or abusive language, and/or behaved in other ways. Additionally, it is alleged that after being sent off, he behaved inappropriately and/or used derogatory and/or abusive language and/or behavior toward a match official. The deadline for Everton, Liverpool, Arne Slot, and Sipke Hulshoff to respond is next Wednesday, February 19.
According to the rules of the game, anyone accused by the FA has three business days to challenge the ruling and appeal any potential sanctions. Despite the Premier League action, the weekend is not regarded as a work day, thus Slot has until Wednesday to reply to this announcement, which was made on Friday.
Furthermore, any potential sanction that could come Slot’s way can only be authorised after the deadline for him to appeal the charge, meaning that he is free to lead Liverpool out against Wolves. It is also not guaranteed that the Dutchman will receive a ban at all, as he may instead be handed a fine and given a warning for his actions.
Slot stated in his pre-match news conference for this weekend’s game that his emotions overcame him and implied that he is unlikely to fight back against the FA’s allegation, even though he was not permitted to address the media right after the game.
