In June 2023, West Ham United won the Europa Conference League, ending their 43-year trophy drought.
The FA Cup in 1955 was Newcastle United’s final significant prize prior to winning the 2025 League Cup.
Five Premier League teams—Brentford, Brighton, Crystal Palace, Fulham, and Bournemouth—have failed to take home a significant trophy in their history.
While some teams in England’s top division have been used to winning trophies year after year, others have had only modest success, but in the end, it is rare. Then there are the others, who yearn for another cup final day out with loved ones to see their favourite team compete for the most crucial football echo chamber prize. awards.
While Manchester City has won the Premier League in each of the last four seasons, West Ham United broke with tradition and ended their protracted 2023 trophy drought by winning the Europa Conference League. For any football team, winning trophies is the most straightforward indicator of success. For as long as a club exists, this date will be a part of their history. However, how recently did any Premier League team win a significant award?
Please take note that the Super Cup, Club World Cup, and Community Shield are not regarded as major trophies, and Brentford, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, Brighton, and Fulham are not included because they have not had the good fortune to win a major prize.

15Southampton – 1 May 1976
Trophy: FA Cup
Since their last major championship, Southampton has had a number of successful generations, especially in the early 2010s when Mauricio Pochettino’s youthful team featured players like Adam Lallana, Virgil van Dijk, Victor Wanyama, and others. Additionally, they advanced to the 2017 League Cup final before losing to Manchester United 3-2 to nearly lose out on glory.
The last time the Saints won anything, you’ll have to go back to when Paul McCartney had just begun his solo career and the most popular toy was a powerful action figure dubbed “Stretch Armstrong.” In 1976, Southampton defeated Tommy Docherty’s Man United team in the FA Cup thanks to a goal in the 83rd minute from a local boy named Bobby Stokes.
14Wolverhampton Wanderers – 15 March 1980
Trophy: League Cup
Given that they were playing Nottingham Forest, the current League Cup winners and European champions, Wolves came into the match as the underdog. Although they were tied for first place in the league, the Old Gold thought they could win, and thanks to a goal from Andy Grey in the 67th minute that went past the great Peter Shilton, they won 1-0.
Since 1980, they have had little to no success replicating their most recent victory, which occurred in the same competition six years prior. Wolves supporters have been waiting a long time, and even though they have established themselves as Premier League regulars over the last ten years since being promoted from the Championship in 2018, they haven’t appeared in a final in a long time.
13Ipswich Town – 20 May 1981
Trophy: UEFA Cup
Long-time supporters will recall a time when Ipswich Town was much more than a lower-league team that was just happy to be back in the public eye after a twenty-year hiatus. They were a formidable force in the early 1980s, winning European trophies and placing second in the former First Division in back-to-back seasons (1980–81 and 1981–82).
After a thrilling two-leg match in Amsterdam, the Tractor Boys—now known as the Europa League—lifted the trophy after defeating Dutch team AZ Alkmaar 5–4 on aggregate. Ipswich also won the FA Cup in 1978 and the First Division title in 1961–1962, but their final significant victory occurred during the period when Adam and the Ants’ “Stand & Deliver” peaked at the top of the singles charts.
12Nottingham Forest – 29 April 1990
Trophy: League Cup
Nottingham Forest and Oldham faced off in what would be the former’s most recent major trophy victory on the 30th anniversary of the League Cup. Although Nigel Jemson scored the game’s lone goal, Forest’s Des Walker was given the Man of the Match award.
Remember that Forest had won two straight European titles ten years earlier and had established themselves as a dominant force in the process. That hasn’t been the case since. The European heroes of Brian Clough’s late 1970s and early 1980s are long gone. But under Nuno Espirito Santo, the historic club is making every effort to become a major force in the game again, and every Saturday night on the banks of the River Trent feels like a revival night from the 1970s.
11Everton – 20 May 1995
Trophy: FA Cup
Since the Premier League’s founding in 1992, the Merseyside team has been a mainstay and has not been demoted throughout that time. Nevertheless, Everton’s FA Cup victory in 1995 marked their most recent significant victory, which occurred over 30 years ago.
Paul Rideout’s headed goal sealed the victory that day, and it was none other than Manchester United that fell at the feet of the Toffees. Their opponents dominated the remainder of the final, as was to be expected, but to no avail. The closest the team has come to winning a trophy in their three-decade wait is when Chelsea overcame Everton in the 2009 final of the same competition.
10Aston Villa – 24 March 1996
Trophy: League Cup
Leeds United, who had only won the trophy two years before, lost 3-0 to the soaring Aston Villa team. Villa led 1-0 at the half thanks to a strong first half performance, but goals from Ian Taylor and Dwight Yorke in the second half sealed a thrilling win. On this occasion, Villa achieved their fifth League Cup victory, matching Liverpool’s record in the competition.
Villa Park may soon be able to welcome a trophy thanks to the hiring of Unai Emery, a proven winner in European competition. The Villans now want to secure regular Champions League action and balance their domestic efforts, and there’s a genuine positive vibe returning at the club.
9Tottenham Hotspur – 24 February 2008
Trophy: League Cup
Football supporters have a long-standing joke about Tottenham Hotspur’s inability to win trophies. They overcame London rivals Chelsea 2-1 in the League Cup final in 2008, which was their last significant honour win.
In the 39th minute, Didier Drogba scored a free kick to give Tottenham the lead, but Tottenham persevered. Spurs took the lead with to goals from Dimitar Berbatov and Jonathan Woodgate, who was named Man of the Match. Even though there is currently little hope, the Greek-Australian has insisted that he always wins a trophy in his second year at a new club. A new era under Ange Postecoglou is now well underway in north London, and he will undoubtedly be gunning for some sort of silverware during his managerial tenure.
8Arsenal – 1 August 2020
Trophy: FA Cup
Capital club rivals Arsenal and Chelsea competed in what is officially known as the Heads-Up FA Cup final behind closed doors (because of COVID-19) to determine who would take home the legendary trophy. In a 2-1 victory for Arsenal, Christian Pulisic’s early goal was negated by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
As the game slipped away from them, Chelsea’s Mateo Kovacic became irate and was given his marching orders by Anthony Taylor after receiving his second yellow card of the day. With 14 FA Cup victories to their credit, Arsenal was the most decorated team in the long history of the competition until recently.
7Leicester City – 15 May 2021
Trophy: FA Cup
It is unfortunate that Leicester City’s collapse coincided with the untimely death of Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha. The Foxes’ historic Premier League victory in the 2016–17 season, when odds were as low as 500/1, demonstrated that they were, for a while, the only team outside of the conventional “big six” that could contend for trophies.
Now that their 2024–2025 relegation has been verified, their final significant victory was in 2021 when Youri Tielemans’ thundering goal—to use a lot of profanity—was the difference between Chelsea and Brendan Rodgers’ team in the FA Cup final. Unfortunately, Leicester City no longer resembles their former glory.
6Chelsea – 29 May 2021
Trophy: Champions League
As Pep Guardiola sought to deliver Champions League gold to Manchester for the first time in their history, the west London-based team managed to stop Manchester City in their tracks. Not under Thomas Tuchel’s supervision.
Three minutes before halftime, Kai Havertz, who is currently at Arsenal, opened and closed the score. Prior to the game, City was the clear favourite, but they were shocked by the outcome. Although this was the Blues’ second Champions League victory, it was also their final trophy to date. Since their historic triumph over City, Chelsea has advanced to multiple cup finals but has always failed.
5West Ham United – 7 June 2023
Trophy: Europa Conference League
very well-known Prague night. Jarrod Bowen made a lasting impression on the East Londoners’ illustrious history by producing the game-winning goal at the end, ending their 43-year major prize drought. Giacomo Bonaventura tied the score just five minutes after Said Benrahma scored West Ham’s opening goal of the evening via a penalty.
Throughout, the travelling support was vocal, and with good reason. Since the Irons’ last major victory was the FA Cup in 1980, this was the first occasion that many of their supporters would have witnessed their team raise a trophy.
4Liverpool – 25 February 2024
Trophy: League Cup
In the 2024 League Cup final at Wembley Stadium, Liverpool defeated Chelsea, their Premier League rivals, after extra time. After 90 minutes without a goal, both teams had plenty of chances to win it in regular time, which led to a heated extra-time session.
With little time for the opposition to respond, Virgil van Dijk nodded the Reds ahead in the 118th minute after rising highest from a corner kick by Kostas Tsimikas. It was remembered as the last trophy that Jurgen Klopp had won at Anfield, which made it even more memorable for the players and club supporters.
3Manchester City – 19 May 2024
Trophy: Premier League
It should come as no surprise that the defending champions, especially under Pep Guardiola’s leadership, are in the running for the Premier League title for the fourth time in a row in 2023–2024. After numerous more victories over the previous few years, the Spanish team’s imposing roster of players shown in style that they were, at the time, capable of continuing to succeed.
It is quite surprising that the Citizens have experienced a slight downturn this time around given how dominant this Manchester City powerhouse has been over the years. Despite this, they are still a strong contender to win the Champions League in May 2025.
2Manchester United – 25 May 2024
Trophy: FA Cup
As previously stated, Erik ten Hag’s team defeated Newcastle United in the first part of 2023 to win their first significant trophy since 2017. Casemiro opened the scoring for his team, and shortly before halftime, the always dependable Marcus Rashford sealed the victory, bringing the score to 2-0.
Their cross-city rivals undoubtedly overshadowed their League Cup success by snatching up the remaining opportunities, but Ten Hag managed to surpass Guardiola a year later when Kobbie Mainoo’s Man of the Match performance led to an FA Cup victory. The Dutchman was given a new contract as a result, however he was fired midway through the 2024–2025 campaign.
1Newcastle United – 16 March 2025
Trophy: League Cup
Newcastle United hadn’t taken home a major trophy in seven decades prior to their 2025 League Cup victory. On May 7, 1955, they defeated Manchester City in the 74th FA Cup match, which was their final victory. Bobby Mitchell, Jackie Milburn, and Bobby Johnstone all scored goals that overshadowed Bobby Johnstone’s equaliser in the first half.
The wait was further prolonged in February 2023 when Eddie Howe’s team faced Manchester United in the Carabao Cup final, where they had the opportunity to snap their trophy drought but lost 2-0. It was practically a given that a new big trophy would be awarded with the extra affluence at St. James’ Park.
In 2025, the Magpies defeated Liverpool in the League Cup final, finally making their position of dominance matter. They completely outplayed the Reds, taking a two-goal lead through Dan Burn and Alexander Isak before Federico Chiesa grabbed a huge consolation goal. This was the case even though they entered the game as the underdogs. The festivities were, of course, enormous.
