Federico Chiesa’s first season has been an amusing one. He will finish his career with Liverpool as a Premier League champion, although he hasn’t really contributed to that.
He did, in fact, only make his fifth league appearance, which is the bare minimum needed to receive a winner’s medal, during the early May away loss to Chelsea (after the title was already secured). He has struggled with fitness, but it’s difficult to shake the impression that Arne Slot doesn’t trust the Italian.
Chiesa has mostly been a letdown, scoring just two goals across all competitions, both in the domestic cups, and failing to score in either the league or the Champions League. He ultimately made his Premier League debut for the Reds against Brighton, but it didn’t do anything to persuade supporters that Slot had erred in any way by not using him sooner.
Brighton vs. Chiesa
neat with the ball, but they only won 1/8 of the duels and didn’t dribble.
His performance only strengthened Slot’s case for keeping him out of the action for the majority of the season, according to the statistics. He completed 6/6 of his attempted passes and was neat with the ball, although he had little effect on the game.
He won only one of his eight attempted duels, had only 13 touches of the ball, and failed to complete any of his dribbles (0/1). Despite making two crucial passes, he was unable to score or provide an assist.
Yasin Ayari tied the score after Harvey Elliott had taken the lead. Dominik Szoboszlai scored a goal just before halftime that appeared to be a cross but ended up in the net to make it 2-1. But after the interval, strikes from Jack Hinshelwood and Kaoru Mitoma gave Brighton a 3-2 victory.
What Fans Are Saying
“You can see why Slot never played Chiesa”
Fans were not impressed because Chiesa was unable to have a positive effect on the game. Regarding Slot’s lack of gaming time, several took his side, stating:
“You can see why Slot never played Chiesa, I hope he scores so he can mask the bad performance he’s putting, unfortunately he’s just not good for prem footy.”
According to another, “Chiesa does a lot of zero value running.” A third, however, said: “Chiesa is not the answer he’s not strong enough mentally and physically.”
Other fans’ sentiments did not really improve, with one stating: “As much as I like to see Chiesa. Regretfully, he is not compatible with this system. He always appears to be lost.
Someone more commented, “Chiesa showed nothing tonight, unfortunately.” Which one came to the conclusion:
“Chiesa simply lacks the intensity necessary to play regularly for us, if we’re being completely honest. Although I adore him, there are obvious indications as to why he doesn’t initiate or participate in games.
