Bobby Duncan, who is the cousin of the legendary Steven Gerrard of Liverpool, has had a career that has been nothing short of a roller coaster ever since he left the Reds.
As a result of his numerous outstanding performances for the under-18 team during the 2018–19 season, including scoring the equaliser during Manchester City’s victory in the FA Youth Cup final, Duncan appeared to be on the verge of becoming a prominent figure in the Liverpool team.
Jurgen Klopp, the legendary manager of the Reds, later acknowledged the young striker’s abilities and gave Duncan his first minutes in the senior team during a 6-0 victory over Tranmere Rovers in the 2019/20 pre-season. Duncan’s first appearance in the senior team was during the match.
In contrast, Duncan’s career at Liverpool took a dramatic turn just one month later, and he is currently in a situation that is completely different from what he was in before.
Saif Rubie, Duncan’s former agent, made shocking allegations in August 2019, claiming that Liverpool were “bullying” Duncan into claiming the club and preventing him from advancing in his career. These allegations were made despite the fact that Duncan had ties to Robert Gerrard, a legendary player for the club.
Liverpool Football Club issued a statement in response to the Rubie, which read as follows: “Liverpool Football Club is aware of and disappointed by the unattributed comments and unfounded allegations that have been made in the media regarding one of our players.”
Due to the fact that the interests of the player in question are not best served by either inflammatory statements, inaccurate speculation, or public discourse, we will not be making any further comments.
“We will, however, continue our efforts to work privately with the player to find resolution in the best interests of all involved.”
Later on, in September 2019, Duncan was reportedly sold to the Italian club Fiorentina Primavera for a reported fee of £1.8 million. This occurred despite the fact that it appeared that they were attempting to mend their clearly broken relationship.
During his time with the youth team of the Serie A club, the Englishman had a difficult time performing well. He only made 12 appearances during his time there. As a result, he ultimately made the decision to return to his home country and join the U21 squad of Derby County.
His time at Derby, on the other hand, was not nearly as successful, as Duncan only played for the team for a total of 275 minutes over the course of his two years there. He made only seven appearances during that time.
When Duncan moved to Real Balompédica Linense in July 2022, he became a member of his first senior team. Real Balompédica Linense was, at the time, competing in the third division of Spanish football.
As a result of his continued struggles, he was only able to make eight appearances for the club, which ultimately led to his departure in July 2023, when his contract officially expired.
Since then, the 23-year-old player has not yet found a new club to play for. He is still a free agent and has made the decision to maintain a low profile by making all of his social media accounts private.
