West Brom’s Championship problems have continued following Eric Ramsay’s departure.
The Welshman’s 44-day reign as Albion manager ended with a 1-1 draw at home to Charlton Athletic, meaning the former Baggies manager had failed to win a single Championship game in nine attempts.
Following Ramsay’s departure, club veteran James Morrison was named interim manager, but he had no influence as the squad suffered a 2-1 defeat against Oxford United last weekend, severely damaging their chances of survival in the second division.
Despite this, the Baggies icon has been named manager of the first squad for the rest of the season, while the club has hired technical coach Matt Gill to the backroom staff. Gill previously worked with Russell Martin at Southampton when the Saints were promoted from the Championship in 2024.
On the pitch, the Baggies have struggled to score goals, ranking 19th in the division in goals scored and 23rd in conversion rate, with only 5.2% of their efforts finding the back of the net.
As a result, Albion’s slump requires an injection of inventiveness, but for the time being, they can only bring in free agents to aid with their current situation.
Attacking midfielder Dele Alli is still on the free agency list, having left Italian club Como in September.
When Ryan Mason was in charge, the former Tottenham Hotspur and Everton midfielder was linked with a move to The Hawthorns, but Birmingham City and Wrexham were also interested in him.
And it has since been revealed that Alli is returning to Spurs training to improve his fitness and find a new team, as he seeks to relaunch his career.
With this in mind, FLW’s West Brom fan commentator has responded to the news, stating that he would welcome the ex-England star for the duration of their Championship run-in.
Dele Alli’s move to West Brom is called off due to insufficient playing time.

According to Football League World, West Brom fan pundit Callum Burgess does not believe Dele Alli will return to The Hawthorns for the duration of the season, with his lack of game time over the past few months implying he will only be fit for a handful of Albion’s final run-in games.
Callum told FLW: “There’s so little time left in the season, and Dele Alli is more than likely to be nowhere near match fit given his lack of games in recent seasons, plus he’s still a free agency as of now, so it’s clearly not worth the risk.
“If he reaches match speed, there will only be a few games left in the season.
“I’d imagine with Ryan Mason not being at the club as well, there goes that link for him, so I imagine there won’t be any chance of Dele Alli turning up at Albion any time soon.”
West Brom should avoid moving Dele Alli at all costs.

While a bid for Dele Alli would draw attention to West Brom from all national outlets, it appears that such a move is unnecessary at this point in the season.
The Baggies desperately need a new source of creativity to help them escape the relegation trap, but Alli’s inability to play regular football over the last three years means he is simply not prepared for the rough and tumble of the Championship.
It would take him a few weeks to reach full fitness in the first place, and his minutes would be regulated to traverse the second tier’s grueling schedule.
Not to mention his wage expectations. Despite his career slump, he is still a former England international and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, so you would expect him to seek a hefty financial agreement.
And, with Albion’s coffers already stretched thin after several manager payoffs and PSR compliance, it may not be something the club can even consider, especially with the possibility of League One football looming.
There are many more disadvantages to this deal than advantages, thus West Brom should avoid making a move, as free agency acquisitions at this stage of the season take too long to catch up and alter the tide.
