West Brom chairman Shilen Patel discusses the club’s issues and the fight against relegation.

West Brom chairman Shilen Patel has been open about the club’s troubles and continuous relegation battle in the 2025/26 season.

The team has had a rough season, involving the dismissal of head coach Ryan Mason in January and the departure of club president and sporting director Andrew Nestor after criticism of recruitment and appointment decisions.

As Patel approaches his two-year anniversary as owner at the end of February, he recognized that he is solely responsible for the team’s current position. New manager Eric Ramsay is already under pressure to improve results, as Albion are 22nd with 32 points from 30 games, tied with Blackburn and Leicester, while Portsmouth and Norwich have 33 points.

Mark Miles has returned to West Brom as Executive Director, less than an hour after Nestor’s departure. Miles, who resigned his job as Managing Director in September, has 22 years of experience at the club and previously led Albion through the Bilkul Football Group takeover in 2024.

Miles stated, “I am thrilled to be back at the club I love, but there is no time for sentiment. I’m here to work and bring stability.

I completely understand our supporters’ frustration and will work with the Fan Advisory Board and Albion Assembly to resolve their concerns. When pushed into a corner, this club understands how to fight.

Patel added, “Mark’s knowledge and leadership will be important as we work together to navigate this difficult era.

As chairman, I am ultimately responsible for our performance, and this season did not meet our expectations. I am determined to lead the club through this difficult phase while maintaining hope for the future. I am grateful to our devoted supporters, and we need them now more than ever.
