Wayne Rooney has made a public declaration that he will only keep two players at Manchester United, despite the fact that he has demanded that the club undergo drastic changes.
After having a terrible season, the club is currently languishing in 14th place in the table, and it appears unlikely that they will finish the season in the top half of the standings on the table.
Following their elimination from the FA Cup at the hands of Fulham, United’s only opportunity to win a trophy this season is now the Europa League. If they are successful in winning the Europa League, they will be able to compete in the Champions League once again.
United legend Wayne Rooney is of the opinion that the club ought to get rid of the majority of their squad and begin from scratch during the summer transfer window. This is due to the fact that the team is having a significant amount of difficulty finding any kind of consistency under Ruben Amorim.
In point of fact, the record goalscorer for United would only keep the captain Bruno Fernandes and the wonderkid Kobbie Mainoo, while he criticised the majority of the players for their lack of character and their unwillingness to fight.
When asked about whether there is a chance for this Manchester United team to get back on track, Rooney made the following statement on the Stick to Football podcast, which is brought to you by Sky Bet: Certainly not, in my opinion. They appear to be disoriented. They appear distressed. Bruno Fernandes is the one who continues to produce, and although he can be rather annoying at times, he continues to produce. They need to make significant changes to the team, and I believe that ten to fifteen players should leave the club. Although it is obvious that they are unable to accomplish that, there is a mentality that exists within the squad in which no one is willing to accept responsibility.
Bruno and [Kobbie] Mainoo are two players that I would advise keeping on the roster. There is a culture at the club in which it is too simple to lose games, and the players will come out and say things like, “Onto the next one,” and other such nonsense. All you need to do is compete on the pitch and show some character. It’s distressing to watch, and it hurts. Having spent so many years at United, despite the fact that I am originally from Liverpool, I want the team to be successful because I have my children in the academy, and it is painful to watch them.
Majoroo intends to depart from United.
Despite the fact that Rooney is of the opinion that Mainoo is a player that United ought to be building the team around, it seems as though the England international has already made up his mind.
It has been reported by The Guardian that Mainoo, who is rumoured to earn twenty thousand pounds per week, has the intention of turning down any contract offers that United may make to him.
Chelsea, a team that competes with him in the Premier League, has shown a lot of interest in him, but it is said that Mainoo would rather make a significant move outside of the country.
United are willing to sell Mainoo if their valuation of £70 million is met, despite the fact that they have not yet given up on the possibility of convincing him to remain with the club.
