One of the most insightful observations that Wayne Rooney has made regarding Manchester City’s humiliating loss to Real Madrid is something that no one else has brought up.
In the first leg of their Champions League play-off tie, which took place on Tuesday, Real Madrid emerged victorious by a score of 3-2. Man City was defeated by a late goal scored by Jude Bellingham.
Erling Haaland had given the Blues the lead, and he then put his team back in front of the opposition after Kylian Mbappe scored an equalizer following the Blues’ initial lead.
After Brahim Diaz scored the equalizer in the 86th minute, Bellingham scored the game-winning goal for his team in the final minute of stoppage time.
During his post-match remarks, Rooney pointed out that the actions of the Manchester City players after the final whistle will ‘worry’ Pep Guardiola.
In addition to that, he expressed an intriguing observation that has not been discussed by anyone else.
The legendary player for Manchester United and England expressed his displeasure with the departure of Kyle Walker, who was loaned to AC Milan from Manchester City until the end of the current season.
In a scathing evaluation, he questioned the decision that Manchester City had made to sell Walker, describing it as “strange” and a “odd” piece of business.
As he explained it on Amazon Prime, “I think you see the importance of Kyle Walker over the last seven or eight years for Manchester City,” he said.
There is something very strange about the fact that Walker is permitted to go out on loan to AC Milan. Since it is obvious that Akanji is not a right-back, and considering that Walker is the captain of the football club at this point in the season when Manchester City is having a difficult time, it seems really strange to me that they would allow him to go on loan.
Clarence Seedorf and Gael Clichy were both in agreement with the assertion that Rooney made regarding Walker.
Seedorf continued by saying, “He is allowing the team to play the way they play and recover from any mistakes or deep balls with full confidence.” In the previous season, I remember the fights that I had with Vicinius Jr.
Walker was a member of Manchester City for more than 300 games and was instrumental in the Blues’ victory in the Champions League during the 2022–2023 season.
In spite of this, he left the Etihad Stadium a month ago and signed with Milan on a loan beginning with an initial loan. The Serie A giants have the option to purchase him in the summer.
