Wayne Rooney has been lined up for a new job two months after leaving Plymouth – and it’s not in management.

The Argyle club fired the former England captain in December, after he had only been in charge for seven months.

After the Pilgrims had only one victory in their previous 14 league matches, he decided to leave the Championship club with the team in the bottom of the table.

As a result of his absence from the dugout, Rooney has since returned to his role as a pundit, making an appearance on the Champions League coverage provided by Amazon Prime Video.

After making previous appearances on Sky Sports and BBC Sport since the conclusion of his playing career, this one came as a surprise.

Despite the fact that Amazon is going to lose their television deal with the Premier League for the upcoming season, they will continue to broadcast Champions League matches until the year 2027.

According to a report in The Sun, the broadcaster is eager to maintain Rooney as a member of their punditry lineup for the coverage of the competition.

He made his first appearance on the streaming platform during the first leg of the knockout play-off round between Manchester City and Real Madrid, which took place the previous week.

Even though Rooney left Home Park, there is still a possibility that he will return to management at some point in the following years.

In the course of his coaching career, the 39-year-old has already held positions of leadership with Derby, DC United, and Birmingham, all of which are Major League Soccer teams. When asked about his future plans as a manager, Rooney stated to The Overlap, “I would like to go back in [to management].” But it would be necessary to be the appropriate club.

To be honest, I’m not in a huge hurry to go back inside. In an effort to get involved with a variety of activities, I am considering engaging in a few of them… that is, unless there was something that was absolutely the right thing to do.

Whenever I’ve been to a club, I’ve always managed to put myself in a situation that was extremely difficult.

“I’ve had some great experiences, good ones, bad ones (and) you’ve always got that to fall back on.”

In the meantime, Rooney has already secured a new coaching position since he left his position at Plymouth.

The aforementioned striker is currently serving as a temporary resident at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel, where he is offering “world class coaching” to the guests who are staying there.

After Rooney emerged as an outsider for the vacant Cambridge job, it is possible that his return to senior management is also on the horizon.
