Virgil van Dijk has urged Liverpool to maintain their composure despite losing to Crystal Palace and Galatasaray in consecutive games. The Reds had won seven consecutive games before Saturday’s loss at Selhurst Park and Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat in Istanbul, which struck an early blow to their Champions League campaign.
The Liverpool captain confessed that recent performances have been subpar, but stressed that there is no need to panic. “We’ve demonstrated authority in games this season, but not over 90 minutes yet,” he told Amazon Prime. “Adapting to new expectations requires time. “We must remain mentally strong, work hard, and improve.”
While Liverpool started brightly in Turkey—Hugo Ekitike squandered a golden chance before Galatasaray scored from a cheap penalty—they never seriously threatened to get back in the game. Despite this, Van Dijk believes the Reds’ points total and previous year’s triumph indicate a solid foundation.
With Liverpool still leading the Premier League and six group games remaining in Europe, he emphasised the significance of bouncing back against Chelsea on Saturday to start the international break on a high note.
