Virgil van Dijk responded to Michael Owen’s assertion that Liverpool’s season was going well after they had a significant victory against Everton by saying that he “put Owen in his place.”
It was a 1-0 victory for Liverpool over Everton on Wednesday, which brought them one step closer to claiming the Premier League championship.
The sole goal of the match was scored by Diogo Jota, and fans were able to get a glimpse of what Curtis Jones’said’ to Trent Alexander-Arnold soon after the game’s conclusion.
At this stage in the season, there are just eight league games left, and the Reds have a 12-point lead over Arsenal, who are now in second place.
Following the game, Van Dijk had interviews with various members of the media, including Premier League Productions, where Owen, a former forward for Liverpool and Manchester United, was a member of the panel.
In his analysis of Liverpool’s season, Owen questioned the team’s cup losses to Paris Saint-Germain and Newcastle United for their lack of success.
He posed the following question to Van Dijk: “I’m just thinking in terms of the season so far, if you’d have said at the beginning of the season that you were going to win the Premier League, I’m sure people would have been over the moon.” Nevertheless, it was developing into something truly remarkable; after suffering a couple of significant losses in cup competitions, how difficult was it to get your attention back on the Premier League and to end the season in a successful manner?
In response to Owen’s assertion, Van Dijk made it quite obvious that he did not agree with it. He asked, “So you’re suggesting that the season is not going to be special any longer?”
Owen responded with the following: “It will be, absolutely, it will be special, but I thought it could’ve been building into something very special.”
On top of that, Van Dijk stated, “Well, I believe that we need to change that narrative a little bit.”
“We are competing for the most prestigious award of the season, and we have put in a lot of effort to get it. Twenty clubs are also putting in a lot of effort to be at the top of the Premier League.
We have eight games left, we are aware of what is at risk, we have to go for it, we have to fight, and we have to enjoy the entire trip before we decide what to do. According to what I’ve already stated, it continues to look quite remarkable to me.
According to what you mentioned, at the beginning of the season, I believe that nobody anticipated that we would even attempt to compete on all four fronts. Obviously, we are at the level now where we are still battling for the largest, and that is the reality.
“It’s still a possibility that this season will be very, very special.”
