Virgil Van Dijk branded ‘salty’ after brutal dig at Everton in post-match interview following late equaliser

After Liverpool gave up a late equalizer in the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park, Virgil van Dijk took a go at Everton.

Following Liverpool’s last-minute equalizer in the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park, Virgil van Dijk was called “salty” for a remark he made about Everton.

With Everton seemingly at a loss, Liverpool was on the verge of triumph when Mo Salah scored his 22nd goal in the Premier League to make it 2-1 in the 73rd minute.

However, Everton captain James Tarkowski sent Goodison into a frenzy with a spectacular volley past Alisson Becker with the game’s final kick.

Everton won a point at the last second after a lengthy VAR review ruled out a suspected offside and a questionable foul by Beto on Ibrahima Konate.

After Abdoulaye Doucoure infuriated Liverpool’s travelling fans, Curtis Jones took offense and shoved the former Watford player, igniting tensions at the final whistle.

Following a brawl between the two teams, which saw Doucoure and Jones sent off, Michael Oliver issued Arne Slot and his assistant Sipke Hulshoff red cards for their actions.

Due to his termination, Slot was prohibited from speaking to TNT Sports; nevertheless, captain Virgil van Dijk did take part in an interview.

The Dutchman frequently complained that the goal was scored “over time” and asserted that referee Oliver had little control over the match.

At Everton, Van Dijk couldn’t resist referring to the match as their “cup final” in light of the Doucoure and Jones issue.

“They would do everything in their ability to make things tough for us because this is their cup final. Regarding Everton’s strategy and festivities, Van Dijk remarked, “It is a huge boost for them but a blow for us.”

One X fan responded to the interview by saying: “Van Dijk’s post-match interview was awful. appears to be a bad sport and petulant. You must be courteous whether you win, lose, or are equal.

Another said, “Loooooollll Van Dijk is so salty. ‘This is their cup final’ he’s not wrong tbf but man.”

Another replied, “Crikey, some serious salt from Van Dijk in that interview.”

A fourth user commented: “Van Dijk’s post-match interview is embarrassing. He is never elegant.
