Viktor Gyokeres, who is currently in excellent form for Sporting, has reportedly changed his mind about the ideal move he would like to make, which has caused the upcoming transfer battle to take a massively unexpected turn.
There are only three months left until the transfer window reopens, which will mark the beginning of a summer filled with massive and exciting transitions in the Premier League.
As a result of the fact that a number of clubs are rumoured to be interested in acquiring a new striker for the team in preparation for the upcoming season, it is possible that the most significant report of the window will revolve around a transfer at the top of the pitch.
Some strikers, such as Gyokeres, who plays for Sporting, have been rumoured to be interested in making a significant move this summer. According to a recent report, Gyokeres has reportedly undergone a surprising change of heart with regard to his future plans.
Rumours have been circulating ever since the current manager of Manchester United, Ruben Amorim, left his previous club Sporting to come to Old Trafford in November. These rumours suggest that Amorim may be considering bringing his former star player to England in the near future.
In subsequent reports, it was stated that the Swedish international player was eager to make the move when the transfer window opens this summer. However, a new report has stated that this is not the case.
According to a Portuguese news outlet called A Bola, Gyokeres is currently considering a transfer to one of United’s Premier League rivals, with Liverpool, Manchester City, or Arsenal being among the teams that are being considered for the transfer.
Even though Gyokeres’ contract has a release clause that is worth €100 million (£84.4 million), Sporting has reportedly set their price tag at €70 million (£59.1 million). This is despite the fact that the 26-year-old player is currently under contract with Sporting until the year 2028. It is believed that the Portuguese club considers his departure to be an unavoidable event.
In the event that multiple clubs decide to make their interest in the star striker public during the summer, Sporting will most likely raise the price at which they are asking for him.
After signing Bundesliga superstar Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt for 70 million euros (£59 million) in January, Manchester City is the club that is least likely to make a bid for Gyokeres, according to the report. This is because Manchester City reportedly paid Eintracht Frankfurt for Marmoush.
Although the striker would prefer to move to the Premier League, the report also claims that he is expected to have several options outside of England, including Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain, all of which are interested in acquiring his services.
Within the first 40 games of the season, Gyokeres has made an incredible 39 appearances for Sporting, during which he has scored 39 goals and registered nine assists.
