Viktor Gyokeres transfer saga takes new twist as key phone call ‘leaked’ amid Arsenal and Man Utd interest

The Sporting CP striker is widely linked with a move to the Premier League.

Viktor Gyokeres’ potential move to Arsenal has taken another turn, with rumours alleging that a bombshell phone call has been leaked.

Gyokeres, 27, is currently one of the most sought-after forwards in international football, having scored 54 goals in 52 games for Sporting CP in 2024/25.

Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, Al Hilal, and Manchester United have all expressed interest in the Sweden international, but Arsenal appears to be his most likely destination, with talkSPORT’s Alex Crook reporting that the player has told his friends and family that he wants to join the Gunners.

On Tuesday, Portuguese outlet Record, relayed by Sport Witness, released a shocking report claiming that Gyokeres called Sporting’s sporting director Frederico Varandas and stated his intention to leave the club for Arsenal this summer, explaining how he had given everything for the club.

“He does not want and will not (of his own free will) return to Alvalade, having appealed to the president to understand the importance of the moment,” according to a Portuguese publication.

The Record continued: “If Arsenal sign another striker in the meantime and discard the Nordic player, Gyökeres will never forgive those responsible for this.”

It had previously been suggested that Gyokeres may leave for a cost of £60 million plus £10 million in add-ons, but Varandas shot down the idea in a bombshell statement earlier this month.

“One thing is certain: Sporting will not accept 60 million plus 10,” Varandas said.

“As of today, Sporting has not received any proposal for Gyokeres.”

Gyokeres’ current contract is slated to last until June 2028.

Viktor Gyokeres “could go on strike”
Journalist Duncan Castles even suggested that Gyokeres might go on strike.

“People will wonder why Gyokeres is so upset,” Castles stated during The Transfer Podcast.

According to his contract, if Sporting refuses to sell after receiving an offer of €60 million, they must pay a €6 million penalty to Gyokeres. That is clearly an aspect in this struggle.”

Castles went further: “If they want to call Gyokeres’ bluff on his decision, he’s going to go on strike if they don’t let him leave this summer.”
