Viktor Gyokeres speaks out on new celebration as Arsenal fans notice what he did after penalty

Viktor Gyokeres revealed a fresh celebration after scoring a penalty against Leeds United.

Viktor Gyokeres has explained the significance of his unusual celebration after Arsenal supporters observed what he did after scoring his penalty.

Gyokeres scored his first goal for Arsenal in Saturday’s 5-0 win over Leeds United.

He scored his first Premier League goal three minutes after the restart, with a neat finish after driving into the box.

The Swede wheeled away in delight, pulling out his characteristic celebration as he linked his fingers to form a’mask’ around his mouth.

He produced the same celebration when he converted a stoppage time penalty earned by Max Dowman, but he added another element to his celebration that caught the attention of Arsenal fans.

Gyokeres ran his fingers through his hair after doing his’mask’ celebration, joking about repairing his barnet.

Gyokeres told Sky Sports after the game that his unusual celebration was in response to internet criticism of his numbers following his performance against Manchester United the previous weekend.

He taunted his detractors, who joked that he had more hair flicks than touches at Old Trafford.

When asked by Dave Jones if his celebration was in retaliation to supporters criticizing his debut, Gyokeres smirked and said, “Yeah…it might be.”

What else did Viktor Gyokeres mention following his first Arsenal goals?
Gyokeres scored twice on his home debut for Arsenal after going scoreless against Manchester United.

He scored his team’s third goal against Leeds before adding a penalty in stoppage time.

Following his two-goal performance, the 27-year-old showed his delight with his strikes and the resounding victory.

“Of course, I am very pleased with the outcome. “Of course, it was great to score two goals,” he told Sky Sports.

“There is always pressure. I know I’ll take a chance sooner or later. We won 5-0, so it was an excellent day.

“Of course, it was a short preseason for me, with only a few weeks of training before playing 90 minutes.

“It was important for me to get 90 minutes and get the rhythm and to get to know the team even more during this game.”

Gyokeres went on to say, “I felt more at ease with the way we were playing, and I believe you can see that too.

“I feel most at ease when the ball comes in from behind and then cuts inside. When the opportunity arises, I am confident that I will seize it.

“We have so many excellent players coming up. For me, it is critical to be at the correct spot.

“This is challenging. Every squad we play against wants to challenge us. We must prepare for each game as thoroughly as possible, but we have an incredible team that trains and works hard every day.

“We’ve started out well with two wins, two clean sheets, and a lot of goals. I believe we are on the right track, but we can always do more and improve.
