Viktor Gyokeres drops bombshell that changes his future completely after Sporting president’s latest comments

Gyokeres has made another major decision.

Viktor Gyokeres has released a massive update that has the potential to drastically transform the storyline surrounding his future.

The Sporting Lisbon striker has been extensively linked with a move away from the Portuguese champions this summer, having scored 52 goals in all competitions in 2024/25.

Arsenal, Manchester United, and Juventus are all said to be interested in signing him, with Corriere dello Sport reporting that Juve’s contract offer of €13 million per year was turned down by Gyokeres’ camp.

The dispute has escalated in recent weeks following statements made by Sporting president Frederico Varandas, who accused Gyokeres and his agency of ‘blackmail’ amid rumors that the club had agreed on a predetermined cost for the striker to leave this summer.

In reaction, it was announced that the Swedish international had gone on strike and would not play for Sporting again.

Varandas has now spoken out again about Gyokeres’ future in an interview with O Jogo.

“I’m not going to say what the price is,” he told me. “The player understands what it is.” I can assure you that Viktor will not leave for €60 million + €10 million. He will not. He simply won’t.”

Varandas also compared Gyokeres’ worth to that of Matheus Cunha, who went for Manchester United after they paid his £62.5 million release clause (€73 million).

“I believe that these guys lack the market worth and quality of Viktor. They [Cunha and Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo] are being discussed for valuations of approximately €75 million.

According to the Portuguese newspaper Record, Gyokeres has not reacted well to the president’s public statement.

According to reports, the 27-year-old, who earns a reputed €2.4 million per year, feels ‘betrayed’ and ‘weary’ and is said to ‘insist on the contract reached last year’ over a move away from the Portuguese club.

According to the article, Gyokeres has ‘no intention’ of returning to Sporting and playing for the club again, as the first team squad has yet to report for pre-season training.
