Viktor Gyokeres ‘demands agent negotiate with one club ahead of everyone else’ as Sporting transfer saga takes shock twist

Premier League teams may show interest in the Sporting CP striker, who has been playing well in the 2024–25 season.

According to reports, Viktor Gyokeres has asked his agent to talk to a specific club about a summer transfer.

Gyokeres, 26, has made 47 appearances for Sporting CP this season, tallying 48 goals and dishing out 12 assists. His outstanding performances have drawn interest from a number of elite clubs throughout Europe.

A Bola, a Portuguese publication, stated in December that Gyokeres’ contract included a €100 million (£83 million) release clause that would have been sufficient to sign him in the winter transfer window.

Sporting is “open to negotiating a sale next summer” for a discounted price of €70 million (£58 million) plus bonuses as a show of “gratitude” to the Sweden international for sticking with the team for the entire season, the publication subsequently clarified.

Premier League teams like Manchester United and Arsenal are reportedly interested in the attacker.

Despite having worked with United head coach Ruben Amorim in the past, the Mail reported in early April that the player preferred a move to the Gunners over the Red Devils because he wants to play in the Champions League the next season.

Since United is now in 14th place in the Premier League, they will need to win the Europa League in order to advance to the Champions League, while Arsenal will get to play in the Champions League.

Former Coventry City striker Gyokeres would surely be a tempting target for Champions League sides outside of England as well, given his stellar scoring record in Portugal and experience in Europe’s top club competition.

Gyokeres scored six goals in seven league games for Sporting this season, and it seems that he is excited to return to the team that is most familiar with the Champions League.

Real Madrid is the Swede’s top preference, according to Defensa Central, despite earlier rumours that negotiations are in progress with striker-hunting Arsenal and Chelsea.

According to the Defensa Central article, TEAMtalk claims that Gyokeres’s representatives have spoken with [Real] Madrid regarding the striker’s potential move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

It seems to be a non-starter despite the contact and the player’s clear desire for Los Blancos.

“According to Defensa Central, Madrid are not willing to sign Gyokeres from Sporting CP in the summer transfer window,” continues TEAM discussion.

“While Madrid president Florentino Perez appreciates the attributes and quality of Gyokeres, he is not willing to spend €100million (£85.5m, $114m) on him.”

The 15-time European champions have a strong attacking line, so the necessary expenditure would probably be viewed as superfluous.

However, time will tell as the summer transfer window draws near.
