Viktor Gyokeres bombshell drops as Sporting striker ‘reaches verbal agreement’ with his next club

The Gyokeres tale appears to be reaching its end.

Viktor Gyokeres is allegedly close to reaching an agreement with his next club, as he prepares to leave Sporting Lisbon.

The 27-year-old has been linked with a move away from Portugal since the start of the summer window.

He has 52 goals in all competitions and is one of Europe’s most productive strikers.

Gyokeres has been linked with transfers to Arsenal, Manchester United, Juventus, and perhaps Liverpool this summer.

According to a fresh source, he has decided on his next club and is nearing an agreement to join with them.

According to L’Equipe, the Sweden international is in talks with Arsenal, with new Gunners sports director Andrea Berta reportedly directing the conversations.

Gyokeres is claimed to have told Arsenal of his desire to join them, with his agent Hasan Cetinkaya nearing a verbal agreement.

The Gunners have yet to secure an agreement with Sporting.

Frederico Varandas, the Portuguese club’s president, reaffirmed last week in an interview with O Jogo that no club has reached Sporting’s asking price for the striker.

Gyokeres’ camp accused Sporting of breaking an agreement reached last summer to let him move for €60 million plus €10 million in add-ons.

Varandas responded sensationally, accusing them of committing ‘blackmail’ against the club.

If the two clubs reach an agreement, Gyokeres’ arrival would bring an end to Arsenal’s long-running hunt for a centre forward.

Due to Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus’ major injuries, manager Mikel Arteta was obliged to alternate between Mikel Merino, Leandro Trossard, and Raheem Sterling up front in the second half of the season.

Jesus will also miss the start of the season after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during an FA Cup third round match against Manchester United in January.
