UEFA To Make Huge Decision on Banning Israel From European Football Next Week

According to reports, UEFA will decide next week whether to suspend the Israeli national team in the wake of the controversy surrounding Israel’s continued participation in international football competitions. The majority of its executive committee members support banning Ran Ben Shimon’s side, according to the article.

“I played for Manchester United and France. According to The Mirror, he stated, “I understand that international football is more than just sport, it is culture, it is political, it is soft power,” before going on to say that they need to be prohibited from visiting North America the next summer.

The time has come to deny Israel the privilege of representing itself on the international scene. FIFA and UEFA suspended Russia four days after it began a conflict in Ukraine. Even after 716 days of what Amnesty International has referred to as a genocide, Israel is still permitted to take part.

UEFA To Make Decision Over Israel’s Participation in International Football

After their Commission of Inquiry—which has no English members now that David Gill resigned in April 2025—concluded that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, an eight-member United Nations panel recently called on FIFA and UEFA to ban Israel. UEFA will now have to decide whether to spend money in Israel.

The Times reports that UEFA is expected to make a final decision next week, with many of their advisors favouring a suspension over allowing them to compete in the international tournament next summer if they advance from Group I, where they are currently ranked third after five games.

According to the newspaper, many who support the ban have cited Russia’s suspension from European competition since its 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

According to recent reports, the Spanish government was debating whether to exclude La Roja, led by Luis de le Fuente and considered as one of the competition’s favourites, from the 2026 World Cup if Israel was still permitted to play alongside some of the best footballing teams in the world.

Israel, who are eager to secure a ticket in the 24th World Cup, is now six points behind Norway, the top-seeded team in Group I, and tied with Italy, whom they just lost 5–4. They still have three qualifying games left, despite requests for them to be suspended from football globally.
