The death of a spectator during Sunday’s Nations League final between Portugal and Spain at the Allianz Arena has been verified by UEFA. During the last few minutes of the game, the fan in question fell from the second tier of the main stand onto the seating area below.
Before paramedics hurried to treat the fan, some commentators, especially those from Denmark, mentioned the occurrence during their live broadcast. However, despite the medical team’s best efforts, the person was not able to be revived.
“There was a medical emergency at the Munich arena, and despite the best efforts of the medical team, the person sadly passed away at 00:06 (CET),” the statement from UEFA said. “Our thoughts are with their loved ones at this difficult time.”
According to @iMiaSanMia on X (Twitter), German tabloid Bild also stated: “A German fan dropped approximately eight meters from the upper deck of the Allianz Arena onto the press box, landing in Block 103, during the first half of Portugal vs. Spain extra-time. Despite receiving emergency care from medical professionals, the guy tragically died after midnight.
Luis de la Fuente, the head coach of Spain, expressed his condolences at the start of his post-match press conference. “I would like to offer my sympathies to the family of a deceased fan,” he stated. We now understand what matters in life as a result of it.
Nuno Mendes of Portugal, who was named Man of the Match, continued, saying: “I want to offer my sympathies to the fan’s family. It detracts from our triumph today.
How Portugal Won 2025 Nations League
Defeated Spain on penalties

Mendes stole the show as Portugal defeated their Iberian neighbors in a penalty shootout to win the Nations League title. Martin Zubimendi gave Spain the lead in the twenty-first minute, and the athletic left-back tied the score. Before halftime, Mikel Oyarzabal gave Spain a 2-1 lead.
But just before the game went into extra time and penalties, 40-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo gave Portugal the crucial equalizer at the hour mark. Diogo Costa saved Alvaro Morata’s penalty kick, allowing Ruben Neves to give the Portuguese the win.
