UEFA has banned four clubs from competing in the Champions League

In the past, UEFA has prohibited four clubs from participating in the Champions League.

The Champions League has been regarded as the top club competition in European football over the years.

Real Madrid, the dominant team in Spanish La Liga, has won 15 Champions League titles.

Liverpool, meanwhile, has won the coveted European Cup six times, making them the Premier League team with the most Champions League trophies.

Nevertheless, there have been several contentious incidents in the league throughout the years, including four clubs being allegedly barred from participating in UEFA competitions.

There have been at least four teams banned by UEFA, according to Four Four Two.

Besiktas

Besiktas is a well-known brand in European football and one of the largest clubs in Turkey.

However, they were prohibited from participating in UEFA competitions in 2013 due to allegations of domestic match-fixing.

After an unsuccessful appeal, they were given a one-year ban.

Fenerbahce

Fenerbahce was allegedly involved in a match-fixing scandal in 2013, just like Besiktas.

Fenerbahce lost to Arsenal in a Champions League play-off while they were appealing the verdict, and they were given a two-year suspension.

Juventus

After being accused of violating Financial Fair Play regulations, the Italian Serie A powerhouses were barred from participating in UEFA competitions for the 23–24 season.

Pobeda FK

In 2009, the North Macedonian team FK Pobeda was given a hefty eight-year suspension for’manipulating the outcome of a match’.

The paper stated: “Irregular betting patterns were observed in relation to a Champions League qualifier against Armenia’s FC Pyunik five years earlier.”

It was announced back in 2020 that the Court of Arbitration for Sport had overturned UEFA’s two-year ban on Premier League team Manchester City.

Due to a “serious breach of UEFA’s financial fair play rules,” City was first suspended.
