The winger tragically passed away before reaching the hospital after being involved in a car accident on Friday morning. According to reports, Martins’ BMW was wrecked at the Tunnel do Covelo while he was driving it close to Porto.
He played on the left flank for UD Oliveirense in the Portuguese second tier and was a highly regarded talent. After making an impression in the Young Boys program, he joined the team in the summer of 2024. In response to Friday’s tragic events, UD Oliveirense has now issued an official statement.

Martins attracted interest from clubs outside of the Young Boys academy after scoring 12 goals in 39 games. He eventually returned to his birthplace of Portugal and signed a free transfer with Oliveirense on July 1. Despite having joined the Portuguese second division team less than a year ago, Martins had an instant impact on the team and everyone he came into contact with. They shared a heartfelt statement acknowledging his passing, which made it obvious how much he meant to them. The Sun provided lines from their statement, which read as follows:
“A member of our Under-19 squad was killed in a car crash when he was just 19 years old. Yvann was not just a player. He was a modest, diligent young man who was usually grinning. He was well-known for his team spirit and his ability to be a loyal friend and teammate.
Oliveirense supporters were asked to attend the club’s promising young player’s funeral, which took place in the town of Romariz on Monday. I hope he finds peace. The star has also received a tonne of tributes, with followers posting about his departure on the internet.
“Rest in peace,” said a football fan. Losing a child at such an early age is quite sad. One person wrote, “My condolences to the family and friends,” while another said, “Lord, comfort this family in these painful moments.”
