According to sources, two well-known applicants have surfaced as potential candidates for the Manchester United position should Ruben Amorim leave the team.
Since taking over as United’s manager in November, Amorim has lost nine of his 21 games across all competitions.
The away wins against Arsenal in the FA Cup third round and Manchester City in the Premier League have shown some hopeful signals.
However, Amorim’s style of play has been questioned, as United has lost five Premier League games at Old Trafford.
Despite United’s dismal performance, the Portuguese manager has remained true to his tactical beliefs, which he reaffirmed upon joining the team.

Gary Neville criticised Amorim’s tactical positioning during Sunday’s 1-0 loss to Tottenham, namely the use of Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro in central midfield, despite the fact that they were the only two senior midfielders available.
Earlier this week, the Daily Mail reported that certain anonymous United players had “doubts” about Amorim’s tactics. Now, Spanish publication Fichajes claims that three prominent managers have been selected in case the Portuguese manager leaves United.
They have ‘begun to assess possible candidates for the dugout’ in preparation for the upcoming season, according to the report, though there is currently no sign that they have shifted their support for the manager.
Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Tuchel, and Zinedine Zidane are listed as the alternatives in the report.
However, the claim contradicts earlier reports on Amorim’s future, indicating that club executives were unconcerned about any subpar play from now until the end of the season, with all attention being directed towards the transfer market the following summer.
Additionally, after accepting the England position on an 18-month deal, Tuchel, who reportedly rejected United once last summer, doesn’t seem likely to have altered his mind about the position.
Zidane is the only one of those three names without a job, while Pochettino, who coaches the US national team, was apparently overlooked when United replaced Erik ten Hag.
Concerns about the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability (PSR) regulations prevented United from making significant January purchases, but they were able to sign Patrick Dorgu from Lecce for an estimated £36 million.
The club did not replace Antony and Marcus Rashford, who were let go on loan, and Amorim is severely lacking in attacking alternatives as a result of Amad’s subsequent ankle injury, which has allegedly raised concerns that he will miss the remainder of the season.
After the Spurs loss, Neville stated on Sky Sports that Amorim would require “two or three transfer windows” to get the right players for his 3-4-3 scheme.
‘I’m not going to change,’ he declared. His strategy will be 3-4-3. In the match against Tottenham, it simply didn’t work.
“I can relate to his issues; he has his guys and many young players on the bench. However, another alternative must exist. There are various approaches to handling it.
“How long would it take Amorim to locate players to play this odd system? You’re requesting experts. There will be at least two or three transfer windows.
