Two Dead And Hundreds Arrested in France After PSG’s Champions League Victory

Thousands of supporters flocked to the streets of Paris and the rest of the country after Paris Saint-Germain defeated Inter Milan in the Champions League final. According to sources, two people have since been killed, and other supporters have been hurt or imprisoned.

For the first time in their lengthy and illustrious history, Luis Enrique’s team—led by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Ousmane Dembele, and Desire Doue—won Europe’s top table on Saturday night. However, the historic event was ruined by the post-match chaos that broke out in the streets of France.

As Les Parisiens fans sought to commemorate one of their greatest days ever, flares and pyrotechnics were lit, bus shelters were destroyed, and automobiles were set on fire. However, despite the fact that many supporters remained composed, the Paris Prosecutor’s Office told the BBC that “several shops were looted” in the capital.

Following PSG’s victory, hundreds are being arrested and two fans have died.
One police officer is reportedly in a coma, according to French authorities.

According to the previously cited source, thousands of people gathered around a robbed Foot Locker on the Champs-Elysees, where about 30 people were detained. The French interior ministry reports that the mayhem has left 192 people hurt. In addition, 491 persons have been detained in Paris, out of a total of 559. Additionally, the prosecutor’s office reported that a 23-year-old was died after being struck by a car.

A 17-year-old who was stabbed in the chest late into the post-match festivities is also said to have been among the victims in the southern commune of Dax. “My thoughts are with the young victim,” stated Julien Dubois, the mayor of Dax.

According to BBC News, Dubois made a social media post. “We are blown away by the drama tonight,” he said, before adding, “It is best to bring these facts to light as soon as possible so that the preparator can be severely punished.” Around 5,400 police officers were stationed throughout Paris in preparation for the wild festivities.

Following the altercations between fans and police, French officials have reportedly stated that a police officer is in a coma, according to Sky News. According to reports, a firework that erupted from a gathering of supporters in Coutances, in the northwest French department of Manche, struck the officer.

Authorities have yet to identify the offender at the time of writing, despite the original suggestion that it was an accident. A total of 264 automobiles were set on fire during the celebration, injuring 22 police officers and seven firefighters.

However, most supporters peacefully celebrated PSG’s historic triumph over the Italians, despite conflicts occurring near the city’s Champs-Elysees avenue and PSG’s Parc des Princes, which is considered to be among the top venues in international football. Many people blared their automobile horns as they sang and danced into the night.
