In the midst of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s imminent transfer to Real Madrid, his agent apparently had discussions with another team.
Given that Alexander-Arnold’s contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign, his future has been a hot topic of conversation ever since the 24/25 season started.
Ahead of the summer window, Alexander-Arnold has been a top target for Spanish La Liga powerhouses Madrid, according to numerous reports over the past few months.
A agreement to bring the Englishman to the Spanish city is reportedly drawing closer by the day.
But according to Spanish news agency AS, Alexander-Arnold’s agent reportedly had discussions with Barcelona, Madrid’s bitter rivals.
“There have been meetings, both recently and a few years ago, to assess whether Alexander-Arnold could sign for Barca,” journalist Sique Rodriguez told SER Catalunya.
“Barça had previously taken notice of him along with Jordi Cruyff and Xavi Hernández. To try to address his signing, a meeting had already been held.
The 26-year-old is now set to transfer to the Bernabeu, but it appears that Barcelona and Alexander-Arnold have not been able to come to an agreement.
In 2020, Alexander-Arnold told GQ that Barcelona was one of his favourite teams.
“Aside from Liverpool, which team is my favourite? He responded, “It would be Barca.” “I think they share some of Liverpool’s values and beliefs.” Players are frequently brought through the academy. I grew up watching Messi and that unique Barcelona squad that had Henry Eto’o, Xavi, and Iniesta.

On the Stick To Football podcast, which is sponsored by Sky Bet, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher responded to Alexander-Arnold’s possible transfer to Madrid by saying: “As a local player and a Liverpool supporter, I’m at a place where they’re competing for the league and a European Cup every year.
“So, if you’re a local player and a Liverpool supporter, I’m simply sad that he doesn’t believe this is it. I’m placing myself in his shoes, believing that we could tie Manchester United for league trophies. I have seven or eight more years left at Liverpool, and I want to finish three or four years ahead of them, along with a few more European Cups.”
