Following a solid start to the Premier League season, Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has shared details of his chats with Reds boss Arne Slot.
In order to improve as a defender, Trent Alexander-Arnold has stated that he wants Liverpool manager Arne Slot to be tough on him.
Despite his continued offensive contributions, some have criticized Alexander-Arnold’s defensive prowess. In Liverpool’s triumph over Bournemouth over the weekend, he set up Luis Diaz for his second goal, his 100th goal assist for the team overall.
With just one loss in their last five games, Slot’s squad presently holds the best defensive record in the Premier League. Despite losing against Nottingham Forest, they are still one point behind the leaders.
After his current contract ends in the summer, Alexander-Arnold has been linked to a transfer away from Anfield, with Real Madrid, a huge Spanish team, reportedly keeping an eye on his status. Whatever his footballing plans are for this time next year, he’s still honing his craft under Slot.
We had an agreement that he would be strict with me; if an assailant managed to get past me, he would call them out in group and one-on-one sessions, saying, “This cannot happen,” Alexander-Arnold said. Together, we review each game, noting our great points as well as my areas for improvement. We even had about twenty video from the Milan game that showed both the positive and the things I could have done better.”
Liverpool gave up just five minutes of the Champions League match against Milan. But they prevailed in that match, enabling Slot to mount a strong comeback following the Forest loss before presiding over a further victory on Saturday.
The right-back went on, “It’s really refreshing to have a manager that will help and guide and teach me how to be better as a player.” “I want to be the greatest, I want to learn, and I want to be the best ever,” the speaker said.
Alexander-Arnold said that there has been severe criticism of his defensiveness. “I believe it was a significant perception that was difficult to dismiss with a single excellent defensive game,” he remarked. However, I believe that when you combine everything, how many games have we played? Five? Thus, four of the five pages are clean.”
Slot has maintained a rather stable back-line since Ibrahima Konate took Jarell Quansah’s spot halfway through the inaugural season match at Ipswich. On Saturday, though, he was forced to make a change, as Caoimhin Kelleher took Alisson’s place in goal due to injury. Slot was happy with the stand-in.
“We needed our goalkeeper today more than in all the other matches we played before because, like I just said, Bournemouth got more chances than I am used to seeing the other teams getting against us in the first six games of the season,” Slot remarked following the victory on Saturday. “But it was a good thing that we had Caoimhin today because he made some really good saves – which Alisson did in the other games as well, but he didn’t have to make that many as Caoimhin made today.”
