After Trent Alexander-Arnold was substituted out of Liverpool’s Champions League Round of 16 match against Paris Saint-Germain, an injury expert has rendered a concerning decision. After Ousmane Dembele’s aggregate equaliser earlier in the evening, the Reds suffered heartbreak in a penalty shootout, and the right-back was replaced in the 72nd minute after seeming to twist his ankle while making a tackle.
One of Arne Slot’s greatest players during the two legs, the Englishman is still being linked to a move to Real Madrid in the summer. He was more than capable of holding Khvicha Kvaratskhelia at bay during 180 minutes of foot-to-the-pedal action. The 26-year-old might miss a large amount of the rest of the season, though, and that is the current concern.
Alexander-Arnold eventually got back up on his own after lying on the ground for a few moments with an evident expression of discomfort on his face while a stretcher was being prepared. That now appears academic, though, as alarming new information on his illness has surfaced.
Worrying Alexander-Arnold Injury Verdict Emerges
He is likely to miss the Carabao Cup final on Sunday

Unquestionably one of the Reds’ better penalty takers, Alexander-Arnold’s contribution to the crucial shootout later in the evening was greatly missed, as both Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones had their attempts saved. The greater worry, though, is that Liverpool might be without him for a considerable amount of time as the fallout from Tuesday night’s defeat is beginning to fade.
Injury specialist Physio Scout took some time to investigate the situation further after the right-back was left in obvious pain. They verified in a post to X that, in the worst case, he might be out for almost ten weeks. As stated in the post below:
“After a tackle, forced eversion of the ankle raises the possibility of a high ankle sprain or syndesmosis damage. The alternative is a foot or ankle injury caused by axial loading, which has a wide range of potential recovery times. It’s not a very good mechanism, and the injury might cause him to miss a few weeks. Only a contusion injury (quick recovery) is less likely. Only missing a week or two would be fortunate.
“Potential Recovery Times:
“If axial loading injury: From 1 week to a few weeks
“Mod Grade Syndesmosis: 3-4 weeks
“High Grade Syndesmosis: 8-10 weeks w/ surgery.”
Trent Alexander-Arnold had to come off in Liverpool's clash vs. PSG in the second half with an ankle injury.

Following full-time, Arne Slot has since provided an update on Ibrahima Konate and Alexander-Arnold. Although he is more hopeful about Konate’s quick return, the Liverpool manager said that he would be “surprised” if his starting right-back made it to Sunday’s League Cup final against Newcastle United.
According to the Mirror, Slot said when asked for an update after Tuesday’s Champions League loss: “I have to ask, but for me, Ibou [Konate] was more that he was weary than it was an injury. He had to get off with Trent. It’s never good news. And it didn’t seem good based on what I’ve heard from those who saw the pictures or how he was hurt. Therefore, if he is available on Sunday, I would be shocked.”
