Tottenham ‘open talks’ with Premier League manager to replace Ange Postecoglou but face paying ‘record compensation’ fee

A Premier League manager has ‘started discussions’ with Tottenham to replace Ange Postecoglou, but the club will have to pay a’record compensation’ price.

With just 37 league points and a 14th-place finish in the Premier League standings, Spurs have suffered under Postecoglou this season.

The 59-year-old, who was appointed in the summer of 2023, is under increasing pressure.

However, Spurs are still in the Europa League and will play the opening leg against Bundesliga team Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday in the quarterfinals.

But even if he wins the Europa League, the Australian manager thinks he won’t please his detractors.

“You just cannot persuade them, in my opinion. In his news conference before the game, he declared, “I’m leaving even if we win [the Europa League].” “That is simply the prevailing opinion among the populace. You will not succeed even if you attempt to use that as incentive.

Something greater must be at stake for us. The fact that we have endured hardship and are still able to have an influence is what matters most to us.”]

In the event that Spurs remove Postecoglou of his responsibilities, Daniel Levy will have to make a significant appointment.

According to German publication Sport Bild, the North London organisation has ‘begun negotiations’ with Oliver Glasner’s agents, suggesting that Levy’s search would remain in the English city.

RB Leipzig, who fired Marco Rose last month, is also interested in hiring Glasner, the Crystal Palace manager.

Spurs ‘can give a greater pay’ to Glasner than Leipzig, according to the report.

Spurs, meanwhile, will have to pay Palace’record compensation’ of £86 million, the amount suggested when Bayern Munich wanted to lure Glasner to the Allianz Arena.

If Palace chairman Steve Parish allowed the Austrian to join Spurs, he would probably seek a comparable price.

Roy Hodgson was replaced by Glasner at Selhurst Park in February 2024. His contract is set to expire in June 2026.

Palace is currently in 11th position in the league after winning 11 games this season. Additionally, the Eagles are in the FA Cup semifinals.
