Tottenham Banned From Taking Europa League Trophy to England Due to UEFA Rule

Did you not hear what Ange Postecoglou had to say? Reports now indicate that he and his team will not be able to bring the trophy back to England, despite the Australian manager’s insistence that he always wins trophies in his second season, which he achieved by defeating Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League final.

Three minutes before halftime, Brennan Johnson ducked ahead of Luke Shaw to convert Pape Matar Sarr’s cross into the game’s lone goal. Despite being sloppy, the Welshman’s goal was essential since Ruben Amorim’s team was unable to react.

When Tottenham Hotspur ended their 17-year trophy drought at the San Mames Stadium on Wednesday night, it was a night filled with excitement and applause. But why won’t they be able to bring the European second-tier trophy home with them after their 1-0 victory?

Spurs To Use Replica Europa League Trophy for Parade

UEFA regulations state the real one must stay with the organisers

Fans and long-time employees of the north London-based team will be celebrating for a while, and the club has formally announced that on Friday, May 23, there will be an open-top bus triumph parade.

Fans will flock from all across the nation to watch their Europa League-winning stars parade around the city with the trophy, which will begin in Edmonton Green, London. However, it has been revealed that this will not be the actual one. It will be a replica instead.

According to UEFA’s rules, the trophy must stay with the organisation after the winners’ ceremony. As a result, the winners—in this case, Tottenham Hotspur—must settle for a replica during their post-victory festivities. According to Article 11.01:

“UEFA always retains ownership and custody of the original trophy, which is used for the formal presentation ceremony at the final and at other official occasions that have been approved by UEFA. The victorious team receives a full-size replica of the UEFA Europa League winners’ trophy.

As discussed, regardless of the competition a team wins, UEFA distributes an exact replica of the trophy, which is prohibited from leaving England unless club officials are given special permission by UEFA.

The handbook of the football governing body ends with the statement that “Replica trophies awarded to competition winners (past and present) must remain within the relevant club’s control at all times and may not leave the club’s country without UEFA’s prior written consent (in this respect, clubs must comply with any request from the UEFA administration to confirm the location of the club’s replica trophies).”

Spurs, who last won a major trophy in 2008 after defeating Chelsea in the League Cup, received 50 gold winners’ medals to distribute among qualified players and other staff members in addition to the replica. The elated Tottenham players will undoubtedly ignore the use of a duplicate.
