Jack Wilshere has come to the defence of Thomas Tuchel in the wake of the controversy surrounding the work-from-home arrangement that the new England manager took.
Tuchel, who started his duties as England coach on January 1, reportedly reached an agreement with the FA that allowed him to make regular visits to see his two children who were living in Germany. This was reported by The Times.
As a consequence of this, Tuchel did not attend any of the matches that were played in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup, the entirety of the third round of the FA Cup, or any of the three weekends that were played in the Premier League.
Since the first of the year, Tuchel has been present for a total of seventeen matches, both in England and abroad.
Andy Goldstein, who is a co-host on talkSPORT Drive, expressed his opinion that Tuchel ought to be present more frequently. This is particularly true when considering the German’s salary, which is estimated to be between six and seven million pounds.
On the other hand, Wilshere, a former international player for England, called the show behind his own back to tell Goldstein that his decision was incorrect.
According to Wilshere, the year is 2025.
The fact that you (Goldstein) are a little bit older than both Darren (Bent) and I is something that I am aware of. Your reference to football is like teletext and everything else.
On the other hand, Thomas Tuchel will have a large team surrounding him. In addition to scouts, he will have people in his life whom he can rely on.
“Also, I am in agreement with you that he will attend a few games, and those games will provide you with the opportunity to learn a little bit more about the players.
However, you are unable to attend each and every game. When you watch the game again after it has been played, you may find that you have gained additional knowledge.
Goldstein came to the conclusion that a football manager should not be permitted to work from home, despite the fact that Wilshere had taken a different position.
Wilshere was then questioned by Goldstein regarding the actions that he would have taken if the former Arsenal star had been in charge of the FA.
The response that Wilshere gave was, “I’d say, ‘No problem, Thomas. “Because you are a seasoned manager who has won things, who has worked with top, top players at the elite level of the game, and you understand it a little bit better than I probably do,” the manager said.
The individual, who is currently the first team coach for Norwich City and is 33 years old, was also of the opinion that Tuchel will have clips of every single player who is in contention for a spot in the England squad and that he would “learn more that way.”
The agreement that Tuchel made with the Football Association has become the most recent criticism levelled against the German manager, who became the first foreign manager to manage England since Fabio Capello in 2012.
It is expected that Tuchel will name his first England squad in the coming weeks, which will take place in advance of the Three Lions’ 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia on March 21 and 24 respectively. This means that Tuchel has been up against opponents before he has even named his first England squad.
But Wilshere is adamant that the former Chelsea manager has not committed any wrongdoing at the moment, and he is of the opinion that Tuchel deserves, at the very least, the opportunity to demonstrate that he is the right person for the position.
“Yes, I believe that criticism was already lodged against him just prior to his appointment,” Wilshere stated.
“When he was appointed, there were people who had doubts about him. I don’t see an issue with anything he’s done at the moment.
“He hasn’t even played a game and we’re questioning him and trying to point out things he’s done wrong without actually doing anything.
Allow him to have a chance.
