Real Madrid’s humiliating loss to Paris Saint-Germain resulted in their elimination from the Club World Cup.
At the Club World Cup, Thibaut Courtois gave a brutal analysis of Real Madrid’s humiliating loss to Paris Saint-Germain.
PSG defeated Real Madrid 4-0 on Wednesday at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
The Champions League winners from the previous season put up a spectacular first half performance, scoring three goals in a row, including a brace from Fabian Ruiz.
In the 87th minute, Goncalo Ramos scored a fourth goal to set up a matchup with Chelsea in the final on Sunday.
Due to their elimination from the third-place play-offs, Real Madrid’s loss to PSG signals the end of their Club World Cup campaign.
In preparation for the 2025–26 season, Xabi Alonso’s squad will now travel back to Spain, where they will play their first La Liga match against Osasuna.
After Alonso’s summer appointment, they will have time to adapt to his strategies.
Following his team’s crushing loss to PSG, Courtois lamented the first-half errors and claimed they didn’t adhere to Alonso’s “plan.”
He said, “We want to apologise to the fans,” on DAZN.
Courtois went on: “The issue? We didn’t work together to press. We were impacted by two significant errors at the beginning of the game.
“Xabi’s strategy was not followed by us. We must examine it, but based on my observations, we consistently arrived late.
For Alonso, Real Madrid is ‘on the right track’ even after losing to PSG 4-0.
“It’s a tough defeat, but it’s a defeat to learn from, we are on the right track,” he said.
“A loss like this might occasionally serve as a reminder that you have a lot of work ahead of you.
“There is plenty to examine and discover. We are now aware of our location, where to search, and where we wish to be, so we can get ready for it.”
Alonso went on: “PSG is a group. We have only just started. It was hard; we suffered. We aim to improve on a lot of areas. Today is painful.
“We can do better. The margin is large. We depart as a stronger team after discovering certain benefits.
Real won four of their six Club World Cup games. They drew with Al Hilal and defeated Pachuca, Red Bull Salzburg, Juventus, and Borussia Dortmund. Naturally, they were defeated by PSG.
