The French icon has been out of work since leaving Real Madrid in 2021.
A former teammate has stated that Zinedine Zidane will only join Manchester United provided two conditions are met.
Zidane, 53, has been connected with the Manchester United head coach position for some time, but as things stand, Ruben Amorim is in command of the Red Devils despite a difficult start at Old Trafford.
The Portuguese has only managed 28 Premier League points in 29 games, with his most recent setback coming against Fulham on Sunday, when United drew 1-1 at Craven Cottage.
The draw did allow the Red Devils to earn their first point of the 2025/26 Premier League season, placing them 16th after two games.
Despite welcoming four new players – Benjamin Sesko, Diego Leon, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo – Amorim’s side has not looked much better than they did the previous season, when they finished 15th in the Premier League and lost the Europa League final to Spurs.
Despite his team’s constantly dismal performance and results, Amorim’s position appears to be secure for the time being.

However, Amorim’s position may be jeopardized if outcomes do not improve quickly.
Several candidates, including Crystal Palace head coach Oliver Glasner and former England manager Gareth Southgate, are presently leading the race to become Manchester United’s next manager.
Meanwhile, Zidane, who is out of work, is an equal fifth favourite with Fulham boss Marco Silva and Aston Villa manager Unai Emery.
According to former France colleague Emmanuel Petit, ‘Zizou’ would need to meet two conditions before taking over United.
In 2024, Petit stated: “I’m not sure he speaks very good English either. And communication is essential in the dressing room.
“To be honest, I know a little bit about Zizou [Zidane], and he needs guarantees if he wants to sign with Manchester United.

“For years, the environment at Manchester United has not been pleasant. The bench’s stability, the caliber of the players, and the club’s expectations are no longer what they once were.
Petit added: “United is still a massive club, but not on the football.
“And Zizou is highly sensitive and concerned about the quality of the players.
“Looking at the team right now, I’m not sure about the level of some of the players. If he accepts the position at Manchester United, that shows he has solutions.”
Zidane has been without a managerial position since leaving Real Madrid, where he won three Champions Leagues and two La Liga titles, in 2021, but he has been heavily linked with the soon-to-be vacant France job, as current head coach Didier Deschamps is set to step down after the 2026 World Cup.
