The real reason Chelsea pulled out of the race to sign Michael Olise

The winger’s pay demands caused Chelsea to withdraw from the competition to sign Michael Olise from Crystal Palace.

Last summer, the Blues had a serious chance to recruit the winger, but were taken aback by his sudden change of heart and decision to sign a new contract.

Chelsea rekindled their interest in Olise earlier this month after noticing his exceptional play towards the finish of the previous campaign.

Oliver Glasner gave Olise a makeover, and by season’s end, he was perhaps the most productive attacker in the Premier League.

Chelsea had already started formal negotiations with Olise and Palace last week.

The 22-year-old, who is now expected to sign with Bayern Munich, reportedly desired to be paid the highest salary player at Chelsea, but the Blues were unwilling to deviate from their rigid wage structure in order to secure one of their main goals.

Chelsea wants to use a more “disciplined” strategy when it comes to player compensation, according to The Athletic, and would want to reward its present first team players, where suitable,

Even though Olise is out of the picture once more, Enzo Maresca, the next Chelsea coach, will have a wide range of alternatives for wingers in the upcoming campaign.

With players like Mykhailo Mudryk, Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke, and Raheem Sterling already signed, losing out on Olise shouldn’t be a deal-breaker for Chelsea’s recruitment efforts.

Kendry Paez and Estevao Willian, two sensations from South America, are scheduled to arrive in 2025; the Brazilian in particular should prove to be well worth the wait.
