Against Liverpool beat Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday. Casemiro made two mistakes that led to the first two goals. In his review of how badly United played, Carragher scolded the 32-year-old after Erik ten Hag hooked him for young player Toby Collyer at halftime.
Carragher had said something bad about Casemiro before, and it went popular on social media last season: “Leave the football before the football leaves you.” What the former Liverpool back said was wrong, though, and Ferdinand has now supported the famous Brazilian midfielder.
Ferdinand said on his show Rio Presents, “I heard Jamie Carragher say ‘leave the football before the football leaves you,’ and I just think that’s very rude.”
“I just think it’s rude because there’s more to it than just a few mistakes, especially since my man [Casemiro] won.” Look at the two games before Liverpool. He might have been Man United’s best player. It would be easier to just say, “He’s gone, he’s done, he’s too old.”
“When I look at him, I think he’s being asked to do a lot of things that Man United would never have hired him to do, like play 30-yard balls and set the pace. At Real Madrid, they never asked him to do that. He cleaned up, played security in front, did slide tackles, filled in all the gaps, and then let other people play football.
The Brazilian did not get called up to the Brazilian national team by Dorival Junior. But he will try to get better with the Red Devils so that he is ready to play against Southampton on September 14 at St. Mary’s Stadium.
