TEAMtalk has learned that negotiations to bring a legendary member of Manchester United back to Old Trafford are now progressing, as Erik ten Hag adds a significant player to his backroom staff.
As United gets started under the direction of new owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, they are going through a lot of changes. In order to assist Ten Hag in leading the side towards greater success, they are assembling a new squad.
In addition to recruiting new players and teams, they are also trying to bolster the group in the dugout, and negotiations are currently taking place on the addition of a new coach to Ten Hag’s staff. In fact, talks with former United attacker Ruud van Nistelrooy are progressing at the moment.
Van Nistelrooy and Ten Hag get along well, and according to reports, the former PSV manager is willing to join forces and help restore glory to Old Trafford. Despite his reasonable success at PSV Eindhoven, the Dutchman still aspires to be a manager.
Burnley has been interested in Van Nistelrooy since Vincent Kompany left for Bayern Munich, and freshly promoted Premier League team Leicester City was also interested in him before deciding to go with Steve Cooper.
But now that Fabrizio Romano has first reported that Ten Hag has approached Van Nistelrooy about joining his coaching staff at the Theatre of Dreams, it appears that he may be headed for an emotional return to United.
Van Nistelrooy’s comeback advances
Since then, things have developed, and he has been invited to join the current setup and contribute some of his expertise. His arrival would be greatly beneficial to a team that is without a top-tier number nine player.
Although the former Holland international has obviously retired from international play, players like Rasmus Hojlund, who has struggled to score goals consistently since joining the team, can benefit from his experience and skill.
During his time at Old Trafford, Van Nistelrooy scored 150 goals in 219 games for United, making him one of the team’s all-time top scorers.
