David Beckham brought “six litres of wine” from important years in his life to his recent day with him at his farm in Bjorkefors, according to former Liverpool legends manager Sven-Goran Eriksson.

In an interview on Radio Sweden’s P4 Varmland station, Eriksson, who revealed to the world in January that he had terminal cancer and may only have a year to live, spoke warmly of the former England captain’s visit to his farm near Sunne.

Eriksson disclosed, “He brought six litres of wine made on dates that were significant to me.” It was really kind of him to have wine from 1948, the year I was born. He may have been a major diva, but he is the complete opposite; he is sincere.”

Eriksson’s England captain Beckham also sent wine from 1982, the year Eriksson won the UEFA Cup with IFK Goteborg, and from 2000, the year he led Lazio to the Serie A championship.

“He ate herring and potatoes and elk meat,” Eriksson continued. He had dispatched a chef to fix the food the day before, and he came and stayed here for the day. We spoke a lot about football as we sat there. It kind of validates his greatness. He was under no need to come here. I was pleased that he attended.”

Following Liverpool’s request for Eriksson to lead the Legends squad against Ajax in March, the benevolent action was made. The Swede said the club granted him the chance to manage the Reds this year because he had always dreamed of doing so.

The 76-year-old declared, “That will be a huge memory in life,” following his 4-2 victory. “I shed tears; it’s obviously wonderful. It has always been my aim to be a reserve player for Liverpool, and today I finally achieved that goal. The day was wonderful in every way, including the players, the spectators, and the match itself.”
