In brief
Which team will win the 2024–25 Champions League is predicted by a supercomputer.
It is not anticipated that English clubs will make it past the quarterfinals.
Real Madrid is predicted to lose at the last hurdle, but they still have a chance to win the tournament.
As the business end draws closer, both fans and analysts are continuing to make predictions for the continent’s premier club championship as the 2024–25 Champions League quarterfinals approach. After completing the long-awaited Kylian Mbappe deal this summer, many people thought Real Madrid would continue to dominate. However, PSG eliminated league winners Liverpool, and Los Blancos narrowly defeated their neighbours Atletico Madrid in the Round of 16 via a penalty shootout.
Jeffbet’s supercomputer has simulated the remainder of the season to determine which club is most likely to finish the season as the European champions, following the completion of a Round of 16 that ebbed more than it flowed. The data gives us the precise scorelines for the remaining English teams in the competition, and it is not a pleasant read.

Current Situation
Reminding everyone of the current situation following the Round of 16
Back in February, the first league stage was concluded. Eight days of play determined which teams (ranked 9th to 24th) progressed straight to the knockout stages (the top eight) and which teams had to play in a playoff to guarantee a position in the Round of 16. It’s ideal to review the current state of affairs heading into the final eight now that the first official knockout round has already concluded.
Liverpool and Barcelona were in the best position for an easier route to the Munich final because they finished first and second in the league phase, respectively. However, Liverpool lost to PSG in a penalty shootout, while the latter easily defeated Benfica 4-1 over two legs in their Round of 16 match.
Aston Villa, Bayer Leverkusen, Atletico Madrid, Arsenal, Inter Milan, and a surprise package Lille trailed closely behind, and in that same phase, the Ligue 1 team famously shocked Real Madrid, the winners from the previous season, with an amazing 1-0 victory. But of those six previously mentioned teams, only Aston Villa and Arsenal are left. The Gunners thrashed PSV 9-3 on aggregate, and Villa defeated Club Brugge 6-1 over two legs to achieve a similar result.
In the meantime, Borussia Dortmund defeated Lille 3-2, Bayer Leverkusen proved too good for their all-German match against Bayern Munich, and Atletico Madrid lost to Real Madrid in a shootout after a contentious rejected penalty. Inter Milan defeated Feyenoord 4-1 in another match. Below are the Round of 16 results:
Results of the Champions League Round of 16 (total)
Lille 3-2 Borussia Dortmund LOSC
PSV 9-3 Arsenal
Brugge, Aston Villa 6-1
Atletico Madrid 2-2 Real Madrid (4-2 on penalties)
Benfica 4-1 Barcelona
Bayer Leverkusen 5-0 Bayern Munich
Neyenoord 4-1 Inter Milan
Liverpool 1-1 PSG (4-1 on pens)
The remaining English teams will take on the music in the following round of the 2024–25 Champions League Quarterfinal.
When Arsenal and Aston Villa found out they would be playing Real Madrid and PSG, two of the tournament’s early favourites, they were probably not happy. Consequently, the supercomputer forecasts that the two English teams that are left will have their Champions League careers terminated prior to the semi-final round.
This would be a huge letdown for the Gunners, particularly given how improbable their chances of winning the Premier League are now. With a predicted 5–4 aggregate loss to the defending champions, Arsenal, one of the largest teams still without a major European championship, is predicted to prolong that run. In the away leg, Villa is expected to hold PSG to a goalless draw, but they will fall apart at home in a crushing 4-0 loss.
However, it is anticipated that Bayern Munich would defeat Inter Milan 1-0 in the opening leg, winning 2-1 at the San Siro before advancing on penalties. Lamine Yamal and Raphinha, two Ballon d’Or hopefuls, are expected to play key roles as Hansi Flick’s attack-minded Barcelona thoroughly destroys Borussia Dortmund in a 5-0 triumph, bringing their campaign to a cruel end. Barcelona vs. Bayern Munich in the 2024–25 Champions League Semi-Finals will be a 16-goal thriller over two legs.
According to the supercomputer, Bayern Munich and Barcelona will engage in a goal-scoring duel as they compete for continental supremacy. Vincent Kompany’s team is predicted to win in the end, though, as Bayern is predicted to win by an exciting 9–7 aggregate, earning their first Champions League final since 2020.
At this point, it should come as no surprise that Real Madrid is predicted to make it to their third final in four seasons. Despite losing 2-0 in the second leg in Paris, Carlo Ancelotti’s team is predicted to win 4-3 against PSG overall, giving them a scare in the closing minutes. It is predicted that Real Madrid would lose their first Champions League final since 1981.
