After leaving Liverpool for LA Galaxy in 2015, Steven Gerrard has admitted that he wishes he had played for two other clubs instead of returning to Liverpool.
At the same time that there have been rumours that Trent Alexander-Arnold will be joining Real Madrid on a free transfer this summer, Liverpool supporters have been reflecting on the loyalty of their former captain.
It was announced on Tuesday by talkSPORT that the Liverpool and England defender had reached an agreement to join Madrid. This news came after a never-ending stream of speculation that linked him to the Bernabeu.
Fans online are left heartbroken that the ‘local lad’ did not choose a career path that is comparable to Gerrard’s. Alexander-Arnold will leave the club 21 years after joining the academy during that time.
Gerrard eventually moved to LA Galaxy after leaving Anfield in 2015, but in an interview with Gary Neville on The Overlap, he admitted that he looks back with regret on the fact that he did not play in Glasgow.
“In that area, Celtic versus Rangers, it’s always the same. The explanation was provided by Gerrard. “In press conferences, in the streets, or in the supermarket.”
It is very intense. There is a fierce competition going on, and unless you are actually participating in it, you won’t understand how fierce it is. Both environments are incredible, and I am able to say this now because I am no longer experiencing them.
Indeed, the best. Now that I have the benefit of hindsight, I find myself wondering whether I should have gone to one of them instead of going to the United States of America. But I went to the United States of America for a variety of reasons,” he went on to say.
In his managerial career, Gerrard has been involved in a number of Old Firm matches, and he recently discussed the pressure he felt to bring the three points to the blue side of Glasgow. Gerrard has been involved in a number of Old Firm matches.
“They are fantastic games to be involved in, not at the time, you just want them out of the way and you want the right result,” he said in conclusion.
The support I received from the fans, the board, and everyone else connected to the Rangers was incredible, he said. “Rangers are a spectacular club.”
In addition, the legendary player from Liverpool provided an explanation for his departure from the club in 2021 to join Aston Villa, stating that he had to prioritise his family.
There is still a great deal of respect that I have for the Rangers and the fans. Neville was informed by him that he had been away from his family for three and a half years, and that he had missed playing in the Premier League.
“I felt if we didn’t take this opportunity it might not come again.”
