Spurs ‘make contact’ for £100m star immediately after losing Eberechi Eze to Arsenal

The Gunners wrecked Eze’s potential move to Tottenham, but Thomas Frank’s team will now look for another elite player.

Spurs are now looking for another England international after Arsenal outbid them for Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze.

Eze, 27, has been widely connected with Tottenham in recent weeks, with some reports claiming he has made it plain that he wants to join Thomas Frank’s team.

However, on Wednesday evening, The Athletic’s David Ornstein first reported that Arsenal had “made their move” for Eze, who “wants to join them”.

Later that evening, Orstein provided an update, claiming that Arsenal and Eze had “reached an agreement in principle” on a £68 million transaction.

Thursday’s Europa Conference League play-off first leg against Fredrikstad is set to be the 27-year-old’s final game with the Eagles before joining Arsenal.

Eze will be Arsenal’s eighth summer acquisition, following Kepa Arrizabalaga, Cristhian Mosquera, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Noni Madueke, and Viktor Gyokeres.

But where does this leave Tottenham?

Frank and those linked with Spurs will undoubtedly be frustrated that they were unable to sign Eze, but sources indicate that they have already moved on to another option.

When speaking on his YouTube channel last night, journalist Fabrizio Romano described Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers as “one of the dream targets” for Tottenham.

“What happens to Tottenham now? They started making calls today to try to comprehend the situation and add fresh players to their roster,” Romano stated.

“For example, one of Tottenham’s internal dream targets is Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers. However, the transaction is viewed as extremely difficult because Villa does not want to lose the player.

“So, people in the industry believe that this deal is almost impossible for Morgan Rogers, but I can guarantee you that Tottenham are thinking internally about him as a perfect candidate.”

Rogers, who is tied to the Midlands club until 2030, had a breakout season at Villa in 2024/25, scoring 19 goals and receiving the PFA Young Player of the Year title earlier this week.

Villa apparently value the England international at over £100 million, which may be too much for Spurs, who have already spent £126 million on Mohammed Kudus, Mathys Tel, Kevin Danso, Luka Vuskovic, Kota Takai, and Joao Palinha (on loan) during the summer transfer window.

Spurs are interested in Manchester City’s Savinho and are reportedly planning a club-record £69 million bid for the Brazil winger, according to ge.
