Sporting Lisbon name shock new price for Viktor Gyokeres as ‘thank you gesture’ amid Premier League interest

An update about the future of Viktor Gyokores has been revealed, and it is something that is, to put it mildly, shocking.

Gyokores, who is 26 years old, has been on the radar of a number of big teams for some time now. The Swedish international has been making a name for himself at Sporting CP this season, where he has scored 43 goals and assisted 11 others in 43 matches.

It was mostly owing to the fact that he had worked under Ruben Amorim, the head coach of Manchester United, during his time in the Portuguese capital that he was suggested to be a possible candidate for a transfer to Manchester United in the month of January.

Nevertheless, the agreement did not come to fruition.

In December, a publication located in Portugal called A Bola said that Gyokeres’s contract had a release clause of €100 million (£83 million), which would have been sufficient to sign him during the winter transfer window.

Following this, the publication went on to clarify that Sporting are “open to negotiating a sale next summer” for a reduced price of €70 million (£58 million) with bonuses.

Now, a revised pricing has been made available.

The Lisbon club is reportedly prepared to part ways with the 26-year-old player for a figure ranging from £55 million to £70 million as a gesture of appreciation for him remaining with them despite interest from larger teams throughout the winter. This is according to allegations that were published by The Sun.

Although it is not known where Gyokeres will play his football during the upcoming season, sources from the Mail indicate that the player is more interested in a transfer to Arsenal than to Manchester United. This is reportedly due to the fact that Arsenal is more likely to compete in the Champions League during the following season.

The new sports director of Arsenal, Andrea Berta, who joined the club on March 30th, will be in charge of overseeing the summer commercial aspects of the club.

Mikel Arteta, the head coach of Arsenal, disclosed the club’s plans for the forthcoming transfer window during a news conference that took place on Tuesday.

According to Arteta, “The way we planned the five first summers, they were going to be very big and they were going to have different objectives because the turnaround of players and the objective of those windows was going to be different.” Arteta was referring to the fact that different summers would have different goals.

But now, when you are going to go again, we want to enhance the depth of the squad, but we also want to increase the quality and the talents that we need to advance to the next stage. We want to do both of these things. We have a lot of enthusiasm for it since we know it is going to be a special occasion.
