Sporting CP issue statement on Viktor Gyokeres return as ‘deadline’ set for transfer

There have been several rumors that Viktor Gyokeres is leaving Sporting Clube de Portugal.

A statement regarding Viktor Gyokeres’ homecoming was issued by Sporting Clube de Portugal in the face of mounting doubts over his future.

Gyokeres, a Swedish international, made 52 appearances in all competitions during the 24/25 season, managing 54 goals and 13 assists.

The 27-year-old is now among the most sought-after football players in the world as a result.

Gyokeres has been connected to teams like Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, and Liverpool thus far this summer.

A shocking revelation regarding Gyokeres’ future was made earlier in the week, indicating that he is almost certain to come to an agreement to quit Sporting.

According to L’Equipe, the Sweden international is negotiating with Arsenal, and talks are reportedly being managed by sporting director Andrea Berta.

However, the Gunners and Sporting have not yet come to an agreement.

Sporting president Frederico Varandas recently denied rumors that Gyokeres had a deal that would have allowed him to go for €60 million (£51 million) additional €10 million (£8.6 million), according to The Standard.

“By now, they ought to know me better,” he said. I don’t respond well to insults, threats, or blackmail. Furthermore, I can assure you that Viktor will not depart for €60 million + €10 million. This is not what I promised.

“The situation is just growing worse because of the agent’s game. Sporting has not yet received an offer for Viktor Gyokeres. Neither this summer nor last.

The Daily Mail claims that Mikel Arteta, the manager of the Gunners, wants a new striker signed before the club departs for Singapore on July 19 for their preseason tour.

Players are beginning to return to their clubs for pre-season training as the new season gets underway next month.

Gyokeres was not there when a number of Sporting players reported for training earlier in the week.

It has been verified that Gyokeres is one of the players who has been given more time off because of international obligations, despite rumors of an apparent strike.

“Those who have been away with their respective national teams will report to training at a later date,” a Sporting statement said.

Gyokeres is expected to resume training early next week, since Sporting’s first preseason game is scheduled for July 16 against Celtic.
