Speed surprises everyone with his football knowledge after Jamie Carragher attempts Cristiano Ronaldo ‘own goal’ joke on CBS Sports

The CBS Sports panel was rendered speechless when American YouTuber and online streamer IShowSpeed referenced Jamie Carragher’s own goal record during a discussion regarding Cristiano Ronaldo.

Darren Watkins, known as IShowSpeed, received an invitation from Thierry Henry to participate in CBS’ Champions League coverage during the 2025 Match for Hope charity event in Qatar last month.

The 20-year-old accepted Henry’s invitation and on Wednesday night, participated in an engaging segment on the popular Golazo show alongside the former Arsenal striker, Jamie Carragher, and Micah Richards.

The individual with over 36 million YouTube subscribers addressed various topics, with the primary focus being a discourse on Cristiano Ronaldo’s status as the greatest of all time.

The footage below illustrates Carragher commencing the segment with several enquiries. What is the source of this obsession with Ronaldo? “Where does that originate?” he enquired. “Due to his lack of status as the greatest player of all time…”

Speed, who frequently expresses his admiration for the five-time Ballon d’Or recipient, stated: “I believe Ronaldo is the GOAT.” I am uncertain if you all concur with that. Each individual possesses a distinct perspective. He serves as my inspiration, even regarding YouTube.

Carragher subsequently enquired whether Ronaldo surpassed Lionel Messi in skill.

Speed retorted, stating: “Indeed, I do.” I assert this due to Ronaldo’s participation in the Premier League, La Liga, and Serie A. He dominated in all of those leagues. Messi played in one league.”

Carragher would go on to ask why Messi has more Ballon d’Or’s than the Portuguese forward, which brought the following response from Speed. “Let’s me ask you this,” he said. “Who has more goals?”

The former Liverpool defender quipped “Own goals?”

And without hesitation, Speed brought up Carragher’s own goal record, which took many by surprise. “Let’s not talk about your own goals,” the American smiled. “Because you have more own goals than actual goals.”

Carragher accumulated seven own goals in England’s top division, ranking him second among players with the highest number of own goals in Premier League history. Indeed, only Richard Dunne achieved a higher score.

Here is the response of fans to Speed’s retort directed at Carragher.

One remarked, “I cannot believe he ridiculed Carragher with that own goal jest, LMFAOOOOOO, he understands the game,” while another stated, “Even IShowSpeed is aware of Jamie Carragher’s own goals.”

A third commented: “Someone informed Speed of Carragher’s own goal record, as if he anticipated Carragher to be aggressive towards him.”

A fourth individual stated: “Speed is not erroneous.” Jamie Carragher has scored more own goals than actual goals, and a fifth commenter remarked: “Carragher has just been humbled by Speed.”
