The investigation into the deaths of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, former Liverpool players, has been updated by Spanish police, who have named the motorist they suspect was responsible for the collision that claimed their lives. The two tragically died early on July 3rd when the Lamborghini they were riding in crashed and caught fire. It was initially believed that a tire had burst while they were trying to pass another car.
Jota had been told not to fly after minor lung surgery, therefore it was thought that she was going to Santander to catch a ferry back to Merseyside. More details on the circumstances surrounding the brothers’ deaths have been made public since they were buried in Portugal last weekend.

Loved ones helped the investigation by identifying belongings

Jota is thought to have been the driver of Lamborghini at the time of the collision that claimed his and Silva’s lives, according to a statement issued by the Zamora Civil Guard on Tuesday, as reported by Sky Sports and the Mirror. Additionally, officials think the data suggests that the car was “significantly exceeding the speed limit for the highway.”
“Work is underway to compile and finalize the expert report. The markings from one of the car’s wheels are being inspected, among other things. Everything also suggests that there may have been a significant speed beyond the posted limit on that section of the highway.
“Diogo Jota was the driver of the vehicle that crashed, according to all available evidence. Although the expert report is not yet finished, the Puebla de Sanabria court will get it because it is subject to judicial review.
According to a different account from the Spanish publication El Mundo, the siblings’ family members were crucial in determining who might have been driving at the time of the collision by identifying items found in the wreckage.
The investigation is still ongoing, and there is currently no indication as to whether any conclusions will be made public, therefore the case’s outcome is still unknown.
