Spanish media make their feelings clear on Trent Alexander-Arnold after Real Madrid debut

Following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s Real Madrid debut during the Club World Cup match against Al Hilal, the Spanish media has voiced its opinions.

La Liga powerhouse Real Madrid kicked up their Club World Cup campaign on Wednesday night when they traveled to Hard Rock Stadium in Miami to play Saudi Pro League team Al Hilal.

The group H match ended in a shocking 1-1 tie thanks to goals from former Wolves player Ruben Neves and Gonzala Garcia, who replaced an injured Kylian Mbappe.

Many supporters were excited to watch Alexander-Arnold, a former Liverpool star, play in his first game for the team since sealing a transfer in early June.

Additionally, the Spanish media were unreserved in their criticism of the England international following a generally lackluster showing by the Real Madrid team.

Following months of speculation, Alexander-Arnold was formally introduced as a Real Madrid player on June 12 at a presentation held at Real Madrid City, the team’s training facility.

Even though the 26-year-old’s Liverpool contract was set to expire at the end of June, Real Madrid chose to pay Liverpool £10 million in order to recruit the defender ahead of schedule and give him time to get used to the new boss Xabi Alonso’s style of play during the Club World Cup.

The right-back’s defensive blunders cost the La Liga powerhouses multiple times during the game, and he failed to impress Real Madrid supporters on his debut.

The Spanish media, which didn’t mince words when evaluating his Real Madrid debut, seems to agree with this attitude as well.

Spanish publication Marca posted the following in response to Alexander-Arnold’s performance in the first half: “Trying to get more into the game.” In an attempt to locate Vinicius, he went too far. The motion ended with Al Hilal scoring offside because he was weak in a duel

Marca also drew attention to a defensive blunder just after the hour mark in their live blog post, writing: “I don’t know how you saw it on TV, but Trent getting out of the way during the Al Hilal counterattack… it left me speechless.”

“Little newcomer so far,” SPORT, another Spanish publication, noted. Too hurriedly, Trent Alexander-Arnold commits fouls down the right.

When Real Madrid plays Mexican club Pachuca in their second Club World Cup match on Sunday night, fans won’t have to wait long to see Alexander-Arnold in action once more.
