Sky Sports analysts respond to Harry Amass, Sheffield Wednesday predicament, following surprising Ruben Amorim accusation.

Clinton Morrison and Tommy Smith of Sky Sports have reacted to Sheffield Wednesday’s Harry Amass predicament in light of Ruben Amorim’s comments against the Manchester United loanee.

With the Owls under tight transfer restrictions, the EFL only approved the agreement to bring the 18-year-old left-back to Hillsborough when Manchester United agreed to pay Amass’ entire salary with Sheffield Wednesday. In fact, in a further charitable move to assist the ailing Championship club, Amorim’s team is also covering Amass’ accommodation bills.

Manchester United manager’s claims Amass had been “struggling” on Wednesday, despite being a regular and one of the more dependable players for the Championship’s bottom side. Sheffield Wednesday fans were perplexed by Amorim’s Amass allegations.

They aren’t the only ones who have commented on the matter. Prior to Sheffield Wednesday’s match against Derby County last night, Sky Sports pundits Tommy Smith and Clinton Morrison examined Amass in light of Amorim’s statements earlier this week.

Smith explained: “Harry is on loan from Manchester United. I’ve seen quite a bit of Harry through Watford’s academy. He played with my son for six or seven years there. He had a number of clubs interested in him, including Manchester United, which signed him.

“He had his debut there last year. You sometimes worry about a young guy moving to a big club, so it’s fantastic to see him go out on loan and get some Championship experience. He’ll learn a lot this season, especially given the current situation.

“Big learning curve for him, but he’s producing and been a regular ever since he’s gone in.”

Morrison responded, “Yeah, and I believe Tommy has a valid point. When you’re at a club like Manchester United, it’s easy to decide you just want to stay there.

“He is presumably training with the first team. But I think he’s an excellent player. And going to a team like Sheffield Wednesday, who is struggling right now, will be beneficial to his growth. I think it’s terrific for him, and all credit to him.

“More youngsters need to go out on loan and have that experience Harry’s going to have at Sheffield Wednesday.”

Smith said, “Night and day [it’s different from academy football].” You should go out and play men’s football. And the higher level you can reach, the better.

“It has worked for Sheffield Wednesday because they have a talented young player there. Flexible, able to play left-back or left wing. This season, he has mostly played as a left wingback.

“But, yes, he is a brilliant star. One for the future, undoubtedly.”

Harry Amass’ long-term future at Old Trafford and his short-term future with Sheffield Wednesday

Amass plays regular first-team football at a high level for a teen. The kind he will be desperate to keep, despite Wednesday’s challenging circumstances at the bottom of the league.

There were reports last month that Manchester United intended to keep Amass at Hillsborough for the entire season. However, his performances will have drawn other suitors, and the clock is ticking on his short-term loan, making it far less likely that he will finish the season with the second tier’s cellar team.

According to the BBC, while Wednesday want to keep Amass, the 18-year-old is attracting interest from other clubs ahead of the January transfer window, and the Red Devils have yet to make a final decision on his future, with an alternative loan move or a possible permanent sale among the options on the table.
