Six more countries could be blocked from competing at 2026 World Cup after being named on Donald Trump’s travel ban

As a result of being included on the list of countries that Donald Trump has proposed to ban from travelling, an additional six nations might be prevented from participating in the World Cup in 2026.

It is anticipated that the United States of America, Mexico, and Canada will host the World Cup from June to July of the following year.

Five of the teams have officially secured their spots at the tournament. These five teams include the three nations that will be hosting the tournament, as well as Japan and New Zealand.

In the meantime, major players like Brazil, Argentina, England, Italy, Germany, Spain, France, and the Netherlands have recently started their qualifying campaigns during the international break that occurs in March.

On the other hand, due to recent travel restrictions proposed by Trump, 78, it is possible that a number of less prestigious footballing nations, including one team that has already qualified, will be prevented from participating in the tournament.

It was reported by the New York Times on March 14 that the administration of President Trump is contemplating targeting citizens of as many as 43 countries. This would mean that these individuals could be prohibited from competing in the World Cup regardless of whether or not they have qualified for the tournament.

Iran is already on the list of countries that are eligible for travel bans; however, the New York Times reported that the country is included on a draft list of countries that are also being considered for travel bans.

With the nation on the proposed red section, the list is divided into three sections: red (all travel is prohibited), orange (visas are severely restricted), and yellow (60 days to address concerns). The red section lists all travel that is prohibited.

Sudan, Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Venezuela are all still able to qualify for the tournament that will take place in the summer of next year. Six other potential qualifiers could also suffer the same fate. Every one of the six countries that were mentioned earlier can be found on the list in some capacity, with Venezuela, Sudan, and Iran all being included in the red section.

So, how could this problem be solved?

According to beIN Sports, discussions between the United States government and FIFA, the governing body of football, have already begun in order to explore a potential resolution that would allow nations such as Iran to travel freely to the United States for the tournament despite the proposed travel restrictions. The course of action is still unclear at this time.
