Sir Alex Ferguson’s claims speak volumes about chronic failings of Erik ten Hag’s Man Utd

During a lengthy conversation with Ally McCoist, Sir Alex Ferguson avoids criticizing the current Manchester United team in a manner that is diplomatic.

Ferguson’s ambassadorial arrangement with the club was terminated earlier this week by Sir Jim Ratcliffe; yet, the club’s greatest manager has a devotion and link to United that can never be shattered.

But when he looks back on his 27 years as United coach in a fascinating conversation with McCoist, it is difficult not to juxtapose the brilliance of Ferguson’s sides with the flaws of the teams that have represented the club since he stood down in 2013. And it is when Ferguson discusses the tenacity of the many teams that he has constructed over the course of two and a half decades that he offers his most insightful insights on those teams.

In his explanation, he says, “They never gave in.” This is a trait that has always been present in the best teams. Additionally, it was about both me and the team. Six times, we finished in second place in the league, and the following year, we won. Wow, isn’t it incredible? Finished in second place six times, and twice on goal differential, and went on to win the league the following year.

The fact that this is the case reveals the nature of that club and the athletes that were included in it. “Not just one group of players, that was going back to teams that were tough as nails in 1994 and 1995, to a really talented team in 2008, with Tevez, Ronaldo, and Rooney fronting unbelievable.”

Take note of the past tense, regardless of whether it was intended or not. The answer to your question is that the club WAS about. Additionally, Ferguson’s recall of how international players understood what it meant to play for United is something that is equally as vital.

“The 94/95 team was basically an English team, with Schmeichel, didn’t have a lot of foreign influence,” Ferguson remarked during an appearance on Ally’s Social Club, which is shown on TNT Sports on Saturday mornings. It was a different game by the time we reached the year 2008, when we had quite a few players from other countries.

All of the players from other countries, including those from Europe, arrived and immediately adjusted to their new environment. Given the growing renown of the club, it is likely that they considered the possibility of moving to United to be more significant than anything else.

United have been hampered by a string of foreign recruits who have failed to adjust to the demands of an iconic institution ever since Ferguson departed as manager. This has been the case ever since Ferguson’s retirement. Although it has just been eleven years since Ferguson won his final Premier League championship, the manner in which he accomplished this feat feels like a distant memory.

“I always said when I got to January – what I did every January 1… I wrote down every year where our opponents’ games could be won or lost,” he says with a chuckle. “It was something I did every year.” And I predicted that we would win by 10 points in that particular year. The goals that Van Persie scored, his forward momentum in the game, his strength, and his self-assurance were all outstanding. The team was performing quite well, and I had anticipated that we would win by 10 points; but, I believe that we ended up winning by eleven points!

According to Sir Alex, it was eleven points, and for those who support Manchester United, it must feel like an eternity gone by.
