‘Show a bit of class’ – Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta torn apart by Roy Keane for referee complaints following dramatic draw with title rivals Man City

Following the dismissal of Leandro Trossard by referee Michael Oliver at Etihad Stadium, Roy Keane chastised Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal.

Man City and Arsenal tie 2-2.
Referee Trossard red is criticized by Arteta.
Keane lashes out at Arteta for his remarks.

Trossard was given a second yellow card at the half for kicking the ball away during Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Manchester City. This was the same reason why Declan Rice was sent off against Brighton earlier in the month. Arteta discussed Oliver’s erratic decision-making in his post-match interview after Jeremy Doku of City tried to stop the action by kicking the ball away but was not given a booking.

Keane stated on Sky Sports: “Managers are claiming every week that every choice is against them. Simply acknowledge it and move on.

“Deep down, a point will enough for him. Please, Arsenal boss, have some class. We responded appropriately, he most likely deserved the red card, and we moved on. That concludes the matter. After taking your medication, go on. Be a little more classy.

“However, given his evident enthusiasm and the fact that you don’t work here to win people over, I believe Arsenal would be cool with it! He is there to help Arsenal win football games, and he is succeeding in that endeavor.

“Listen, I usually don’t mind when he gets the yellow card and has to take his medication. We observe other managers acting in ways that we may not always agree with, but they are passionate and emotional, and I believe it’s just him trying to succeed. I wouldn’t treat him too badly.

Arsenal led 2-1 at halftime with to goals from defenders Riccardo Calafiori and Gabriel, following an early goal from Erling Haaland, but Trossard’s red card changed the game’s direction. In an effort to maintain their lead, Arteta brought his squad out in a more defensive shape following the interval. However, Arteta was enraged by John Stones’ equalizer in the 98th minute, which maintained City atop the table.

When the Gunners play League One team Bolton on Wednesday, September 25 in the Carabao Cup third round, things should go more smoothly.
