According to a recent source, Liverpool is expected to get a transfer bid for one of their defenders from an unexpected Premier League team.
Trent Alexander-Arnold has decided to join Real Madrid this summer when his Liverpool contract expires, according to a story published by talkSPORT on Tuesday.
However, as squads for the 2025 Club World Cup must be filed by June 10th, Real Madrid may have to pay a price if they want him to play. Alexander-Arnold can only sign with Los Blancos as a free agent after his Liverpool contract expires on June 30.
However, Arne Slot’s team may need to sign a defender they hadn’t budgeted for, even though they will undoubtedly already be looking for replacements.
The Times claims that as they get ready to return to European play, whether it is in the Europa League or the Champions League, Carabao Cup winners Newcastle intend to make a £30 million approach for centre-back Jarell Quansah.
The idea of more frequent first team play is reportedly very appealing to the Magpies, who think that such a price plus add-ons will persuade Liverpool to sell.
Quansah started Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Ipswich in the Premier League’s first match of the season, but he was replaced at halftime due to aerial difficulties and did not play in another league match until December.
Since then, he has been in and out of the starting lineup, most recently filling in at right-back due to injuries to Joe Gomez, Conor Bradley, and Alexander-Arnold.
Despite missing both of England’s World Cup qualifying victories against Albania and Latvia, he was also called up to Thomas Tuchel’s initial England team.
Slot said he could see Quansah playing more frequently at right-back, so if the 22-year-old says he wants more first team action at Newcastle, it might be a double blow for Liverpool.
“In the last few times he had to play for us, it was in a position he is not completely used to as right full-back,” Slot told reporters following the defender’s England call-up.
“But in my opinion, he has the quality to play in that position because he is strong, fast, very comfortable with the ball, and it gives us an extra quality if we play him.”
